Question on EDC for my 2012 535i M Sport

Back in November, I bought a 2012 F10 535i with M Sport Package. Overall, I love the look of the car but I am not a big fan of the handling compared to my prior E60. The F10 is much more floaty and not as buttoned down as my old car. Yes, I test drove it before I bought it but thought I would love the car once I got used to it.

For now, I do have a question about Electronic Damper Control or EDC. EDC allows me to choose Sport, Comfort, etc. But, I cannot tell the difference in the ride whatsoever. When I move from Comfort to Sport, I can tell the shift points are at higher RPMs but that is about it.

Can others feel a difference with EDC as far as the steering effort or the softness of the ride in various modes? Could my specific car have a problem with this?

I have read about the Dynamic Handling Package or DHP that was optional on later cars but this is not that. I would probably like DHP but for now am just asking about EDC.

Thanks!

Its funny you say that. I always order the dynamic handling package... not a cheap option. On my 2008 M3 the difference was remarkable and immediately changed the demeanor of the car. On my 2012 X5 again, pushing the sport button instantly tightened up the car and eliminated all float and body roll, making a big heavy suv handle like a much smaller car. With my 2015 5er, pressing that $3500 button does seemingly nothing, and leaves me wondering why I spent all that money (and gave up the M-sport suspension that I paid for) for a DHP that is FAR less effective on this car than on my previous two cars.

Just another of BMW's long stream of recent disappointments.

Don't you need to configure the sport mode? I think you choose between gearbox only and gearbox and chassis.
It'll be probably under settings in the idrive.
Worth a try.

That was my first thinking, 'chassis' left unchecked. There are two ways to do this, from the screen (if active) when toggling to Sport mode, where you have the option to configure chassis, or drivetrain, or both. And there is the option from a settings menu in iDrive.

The other thought... does the OP actually have EDC (VDC)? The modes would have Comfort+ included in the sequence in a 2012 model.

Definitely differences in the three suspension settings, easily felt on anything but a super smooth surface.

Yes, Sport mode needs to be configured to whatever combination of drivetrain and chassis engagement you desire. If the OP is not feeling a suspension change, then possibly Sport mode is set to only change the throttle response and transmission shift points(drivetrain), and not the chassis.

Thanks for the posts.

Yes, I have configured Sport Mode so that both chassis and drivetrain are checked. It's pretty easy to find that in the menus. I forget the actual wording.

I can feel no change in ride between Sport, Comfort and Comfort Plus.

When in Sport mode, I can tell the tranny is shifting at higher rpms vs. Comfort mode but that is the only change I can feel.

Below is a photo of my car's options from the BMW Decoder website. I only captured a few lines of it:

I suggest you 'uncheck' drivetrain, just try it with the chassis configured. Then you will only have the suspension and steering active on the modes toggle switch. Try from Comfort to Sport, does the steering firm up?

On anything less than smooth surfaces you should feel the suspension change to more aggressive damping. Ridges and the like will yield a higher frequency feel to the cabin. I feel it through the seat and steering.

I've got all the right sport settings selected, but the car just does not firm up like my last two vehicles did.
