Trunk wouldn't open, anyone had a similar problem?
I have a 2014 5er with powered trunk. The trunk never had a problem before but suddenly yesterday it just wouldn't open, with the key's button, the button on the back of the trunk, or the button in the car (left low driver side).
Is there a purely mechanical key to open the trunk? Has anyone had this problem before and found an easy solution? Want to ask before I bring it in to servicing (which requires a lot of waiting...). Thank you |

Case in point. I just commented a couple days ago that the power trunk lid was just something else unnecessary just waiting to malfunction. Is it really that hard to lift your arm and close the trunk?
All this lack of movement in our society is why there is a growing epidemic of big people needing to ride around stores, fairs and amusement parks in carts. |

Have you checked the fuse
Strange I had a powered trunk on my X5 and that would allow me to open it and lift it manually from the button on the back Sounds like the whole system has no power so the fuse would be my first port of call |

I know... I think powered trunk on a sedan is of no value... On a SUV or hatchback, sure, but on a sedan... pretty useless...
Guess will have to take it to servicing... Hopefully this is an easy fix and not something that ll require replacing an entire system... Not having access to a trunk is a pretty serious matter on a car... Given our experience with current gen 3 and 5 (we own 2 BMWs), I am never holding a BMW past warranty... |

Go in your arm-rest and see if the trunk lock is clicked to the side. I was going crazy trying to open my trunk, was ready to go to the dealer and complain, then my brother figured out I hit the trunk lock by accident.
Double check even though it's obvious lol. |

was the slider always part of the powered trunk lid? I have a 2011 european F10 with powered trunk lid but no slider switch in the glove box compartment to disable it. Perhaps it's a north american only option since we do not have the concept of valet parking in europe.

trunk slider switch - Valet mode
Most of you might know that slider switch is to restrict anyone from opening a trunk - for say you park your car in valet and want to protect your items in trunk - just slide the switch to lock, lock the arm rest box with key from keyfob and no one else can open your trunk by either way...

Just to clarify, the locking slider is inside the centre console arm-rest.
