Some new accessories: Chrome tips & HID's!!!

There 2 things I wasn't a big fan of on the F10 when I purchased her a little while ago, the black tips (yes, I know many of you like them) and the yellow'ish halogen fog lights. I've been a fan DDM's cheap HID's for a while, the ones that cost $29 and had them on my last car for over 5 years before 1 of the ballasts went on me. This time around after doing some research knowing full well that people had had flickering issues or the bulb out error I decided on the Morimoto 4500k Elite HID's.

HID install was pretty straight forward, found some decent info on these forums but nothing too detailed so I might be doing a DIY on the install process soon. The 4500k are pretty spot on in matching the driving lights and that was exactly what I was going for.

As for the black tips that came with the car.. well they were starting to flake a bit, some of the chrome was showing on one and to be fair, I like a bit more contrast on that rear . After some twisting and turning the old ones just wouldn't budge, out came the rubber mallet and off they came in seconds.

I know these are minor "mods" but I hope you enjoy the pics. Before and after pics are shown for each mod, one of the HID pics shows the comparison between the stock halogen and the HID.

Lol I cringed as I read the title of your thread too fast and saw the word "CHROME!" tips turned out great but I prefer the blackout look! Love the HID upgrade! Can you post me a link to where you bought them from? No error codes at all?

Hahaha sorry for the scare . Here's the link from where I got the HIDs, https://www.theretrofitsource.com/hi...l#.VzKICuSX9f4. I picked up the 35w, read that thhe 55w gave some people issues. If the direct link doesn't work and takes you instead to the homepage, click on HID Systems then scroll to "H11: Morimoto Elite HID System".

No error codes at all and no flickering. I had to stack all the components, ignitor and canbus, on top of the ballast with 3M tape as there's not that much room behind the fog lights to mount everything a different way, especially on the drivers side.

The chrome tips look good but get ready for continual cleaning almost every day since they'll be covered in black soot after driving. I'm glad my 550 has the black tips instead of chrome, they never look dirty. My old 335i had the chrome tips and it drove me crazy having to clean the black soot off constantly.

Thanks all and yes, seems like I've been wiping the tips down at the end of each day to make sure they stay clean
