F10 535i Stuck in Park, Out of warranty

So I received bad news today. My car was stuck in park and no the dealer tells me the valve body is defective and they will have to replace the tranny with a used one to fix it, $5000.
If they are replacing the transmission, why is it not cover under power train warranty? This is my 7th used BMW and I think I've had it with them. a 5 year old car with 45,000 miles and the transmission is gone, unbelievable.
I love the way BMW drives and the design, but I think it is time to go with reliability of Acura or Lexus for much cheaper than BMW.
I am so disappointed right now, because I love the car so much.

First, BMW do not build the transmission themself. Second, you bought it used so how can you blame BMW for this? Maybe it was abused? Lastly, luxury German car everyone knows.to keep an open wallet if you go for one of these.

Im still sorry for your damage and hope things like that dont happen to anyone else

Isn't BMW warranty 4 years/50K miles, whichever comes first? That would explain why it's not covered.

our cars use the ZF 8 speed transmission, noted to be one of the most reliable they have ever produced. it is used in dozens of cars, from dodge hellcats to Bentleys. your issue seems like either the car was very abused by the previous owner, or a very rare issue indeed

You can probably get out the door with an indy for under $2,000. For my 335i, I found a used transmission with 30k on Ebay for $900 and had my indy install it for around $500. The transmission has been working great since.

I know that but in the original post the OP implied a separate powertrain warranty. That is the reason for my inquiry...

From his post i think he thinks that powertrain is covered up till 50k miles.... and not by how old the car is?

the only way to get the standard 4 yrs / 50k miles extended is to buy CPO, otherwise they will just say have a nice day, here's your bill

That's awful news. I would probably try exploring the indy route before caving into the dealership.

My 2013 535i M sport is in the shop now because when backing up it was making this whining/whistling sound. The dealer stated they don’t know why it’s making this sound so they recorded the sound and sent it to the big boy at BMW. I am glad it is a CPO. I have about 45000 miles on it. Just curious did your car transmission made any noise like mine is making.

Hi
I need a help please, my bmw f10 stuck on parking, took it to a bmw indy; he said the mechatronics need to be done, my 2010 bmw f10 has done 170.000 miles, he managed to get a second hand gear box for around £700 from ebay which he has been told had done 54.000 miles but note the same part number, he said it is the same but this one came after 2010.
The gearbox fits nicely but the problem in the computer it says that the part number is different. How can we code a different gearbox to an f10. Please I need help, my car is being sitting for 4 weeks. Someone told me that you shoulld have changed the transmission oil and filter every 40.000 miles

Sadly, you are not going to be able to install used unit. Even though you can install a used gearbox case, the computer/valve body combo will not work. Every valve body is Locked to the vehicle it was sold for by the dealer. Once locked, it can not be used on different vehicle. Do not waste your time and money trying a used unit. If your valve body is indeed the culprit, then you will have to get a brand new one from dealer.
