Drive Train Malfunction over half throttle
Car drives absolutely fine. If you give it more than half throttle to the point where it drops a gear to accelerate, it throws a drive train malfunction. no CEL or codes.
Any idea?

more prone to happen during cold weather. I can redline it in the higher gears, but taking off aggressively in first gear for example causes the light to go on as soon as i upshift. when you restart the car, does it run fine, and does the CEL remain on? it could be so many different things. most likely spark plugs or coil packs which is what i am suspected for my car. what mileage are you at? you will need to get your car scanned to find out. |

I would buy a couple bottles of BMW fuel system cleaner plus by Techron. I started pouring a bottle in the gas tank every 2k miles starting from 30k and it made a huge difference. It does a good job at cleaning the carbon build up including the residue on the injectors.

Turned out its a boost leak, the next step is finding where exactly the leak is happening.

Yeah I've had a ER charge pipe on the car for like 4 months now. I think something got knocked loose after the DME was taken out to unlock.

Is your car throwing a CEL now? If you have a big boost leak (should be if you're throwing DTM's) it should be accompanied by a CEL with the 30FF code. How did you determine it's a boost leak?

Determined its a boost leak from PTF, guys who make Bootmod3. Sent them a log file. You also dont hear the blow off valve anymore when you let off the gas

AWF87M2 I use E85 for cleaning and 1-200 miles before oil change the Techron stuff (since I bought a pack at Costco for dirt cheap)
DigitalNav Rheingold will help you tremendously to find any errors/issues with the car. When I Unlocked my car, the mechanic himself forgot to tighten 2 sensors and I had some funky codes (no CEL) ; not related to the tune or anything. Went back to the shop, mechanic used Rheingold and found the sensors he had to push in. Your BoostLeak could be anywhere near the Throttle Body or Charge Pipe since they have to unplug that to reach the ECU

lol I hear you. I literally see zero info about gains or numbers with bootmod3 for our n55's. I have an authorized dealer not far from me in Chicago. That's the only thing making me lean towards this direction and not do Mission Performance.

Both routes aren't bad. Im in NorCal and had an authorized BM3 open up next to me and heard good things about it. I also like the ability to flash myself and log. Overall i think its a better end-user experience.
Car feels like night and day difference... debating on installind a downpipe and a FMIC to go stage 2.

vivanapoli806 what are the Mission Stage1 numbers?
DigitalNav If I were u, this is what I did.. Talk with your preferred Dynojet shop (RWD is cheaper than AWD usually) get a few friends from the boards if you want. Set up a Group Dyno or rent the dyno lets say $125 first hr and $60 after (for ex.) I went to do 4 pulls, 3 with piggyback and last one I put it on map0 to serve as a baseline pull. (93 octane) I went back 2 months later, with e35% mix and did the same some 4th gear pulls and 5th gear pulls with piggyback maps and then last one map0. Now that I added FMIC/DP + BM3, I'll go back with 93 octane and do 3 pulls, and flash back to stock do a baseline pull to see what is the delta of that day with the mods. I'll add 30% e85 and do 2 pulls on baseline, flash to Stg2 map and/or E30 map if i have one by then for about 3 more pulls. Unless you have a drag-strip u can visit weekly then i'll just go to Dyno right now to see what delta or differnece you will gain from your next stage. FMIC will help with Heatsoak more consistent power back to back pulls (dyno proven) and logs you will see IAT temps not skyrocketting as much (I just did my fmic 2 weeks ago) after a year, def will do this asap on my next car but i waited for the right one. CTS Turbo brand was tested on another X3 35i he had the shop do a little mod to it and comparing to others it was the easiest one (shop said) where i read.

@FSociety The numbers for their stage 1 tune posted on their website is 318/436. I'm going to send ptf an email and see what their claims are. My local bootmod3 dealer said they don't know of any f10 n55 running this yet.

FSociety how soon are you planning on dyno the FMIC and Downpipe?
Did PTF say anything to you about running a e85 blend? They said they dont recommend on stock HPFP.
