I have the same drone on my 550xi with muffler delete. It sounds great on the outside but at 60-70mph man that thing is annoying. So I just tilt the gear lever to sport and away it goes (so does the gas though!!!) Lol

I would love straight pipes because they allow your engine roar, but drone would kill me.
If it bothers you also, you can eliminate all the drone with a helmholtz resonator, but the length of the resonator has to be exact. Below is a comparison of a stock Pontiac G8 on the left, and a straight pipe with a helmholtz resonator branching off to the side. There is no air flow restriction but the resonator will kill the sound frequencies that produce the dreaded drone. There is a math formula that must be used to calculate the precise length of the pipe but I've been too lazy to figure it out. |
