iPod Classic 160gb plays at 2x speed

Anyone else encounter this problem... upon a re-start, my brand new iPod Classic will often play at 2x speed when hooked up to the car using Apple's cable?

I have my ipod classic connected with the new white, single cable Apple connector to the USB input in the center console, and have not experienced this "2x speed" play issue.

This is a new one on me and have never esperienced it with either an i-pod classic or new 6th gen Nano that I keep in the car all the time now. You may want to send this question to the i-forums to see if anyone has had this issue on their i-pod. You may also want to borrow some one elses i-pod and see if you get the same condition. Maybe that way you can narrow it down to the car or your i-pod.....although my guess would be the i-pod.

Yes, you are not the only one experiencing this problem! See https://discussions.apple.com/message/13298929#13298929 and i've seen more of these messages on the forums. But no exact cause or solution yet.

I'm having another but similar problem with my iPod Classic. I'm driving a F10 535d with 6FL option for connecting Apple iPhones/iPods. My iPod Classic 160GB plays slow after turning car off and on. It's about 7% slower than it ought to be. Also the playing time as displayed in the console is 'slower'. I bought a new iPod Classic 160GB. Same problem. Both the iPods work fine in a Audi Q5 with Apple Music Interface. And iPhones 3GS and 4 also work fine in the BMW. So my conclusion: the problem combination is the iPod Classic 160GB model in the BMW.

So, I think the problem is in the iPod indeed. Not in your copy though, but in the model. I expect a replacement with another copy of the same model will give the same problem.

So now, were are we to go with our problem? To BMW? But the BMW works fine with an iPhone. To Apple? But the iPod works fine in an Audi.

I've been resetting my iPod now about 50 or more times I think in the last 6 months.
Hope to hear from you if you find the exact cause or a solution

Typical integration issue. But BMW sells the interface for their product so you should definitely talk to them, not to Apple
I'm pretty sure they (BMW) have an iPod/Firmware compatibility table. Better check that before you gonna stalk BMW.

This seems to be a common problem with anyone using a new iPod Classic with a new BMW. A cure is to use the old BMW "Y" cable, everything will work except the album cover art on the display module.

Same Problem - Got fixed

Same problem for me as well. Bran new 2011 with the iPod Classic 160GB. Fast play randomly... Got the problem fixed with the BMW Y Cable. The simple Apple cable with the iPod is the problem. The BMW Y cable fixed the issue and it never appeared after. It definitely wasn't an iPod issue but rather the way the BMW audio system was connecting to the iPod.

+1. Mine is an even older model, the iPod Classic 30GB. Works perfectly through the standard Apple cable, even displays cover art. Perhaps resetting the iPod would help?
