535 not remembering audio volume

I mover up to a 2012 535i (early 2012 production) a few months ago, and every time I start the car, I have to increase the volume of the audio system to get it back to where it was before. It never seems to remember the previous volume setting. I've tried both key fobs, importing and exporting profiles, adjusting the speed sensitivity, but I can't seem to stop it from resetting the volume every time the car is shut off. I'm using an ipod plugged into the center console USB jack, if that matters. I've also tried adjust the volume on the ipod when it's unplugged, bit no joy. It's also the same iPod that I was suing in my previous 2009 non-iDrive 335i, and it had no problem remembering the previous audio volume. Any ideas? Is this a known issue? TIA.

I think that's by design, presumably so it doesn't 'blast' you when you turn on

I don't think that will help, please see the info on the speed volume below.

Many of today's modern BMW's contain an adjustment within the radio that allows the user to adjust the speed sensitive volume of the audio system.

Here's what that means:
As the vehicle RPM's increase, the radio automatically does two things:
Increases the volume of the radio
Decreases the low-end frequency response in order to minimize distortion at higher volumes

My e89 (z4) does this. The car always resets volume to a low level on start, to prevent loud noise when you start the car. Imagine you've had the volume on very loud while out for a fun drive. Next morning you get in and are blasted by the loud volume you had when turning off. Not fun. So the car drops the volume down. On my e89 this is to a volume where its listenable but on the quieter side. I have no issue with this, saves me from having a heart attack when blasted with unexpected loud noise!
