Lease end... excess wear coverage... tires

I'm halfway thru the 3 year lease on my 550. At lease start I opted for the Excess wear and tear coverage which covers damage up to $5K at turn in, and it includes worn tires.

The runflat tires that came on the car are basically done as I have 20k miles on the car.

Planning on putting on non-runflat tires which should last thru the end of the lease.

Should I save the RF tires and put them back on for lease return or do I not need to worry about that since I have the $5K coverage? I know the coverage allows for returning the car with bald tires but does that still mean they have to be RF tires even if bald?

I would save the RF and put them back on when you go to return the car

Did more research. The $5K excess wear and tear coverage that I opted for will cover the tires. So no need to return the car with runflats.

Although, I might as well keep them in my garage and decide when I return the car.

Yes it will cover the tires, but look a little more because I am sure it means Run-flats coverage only --- as it is a leased car.

No. It will cover replacing the tires; it doesn't matter what tires are on the car when I return it. If they have to be replaced, they have to be replaced.

I immediately bought a brand new 18" take offs from another 535 and swapped out the 351s. It cost me around $1K with TPMS & etc. I expect them to last me through the course of the lease. I use the 351s during summer time only for 2-3 months or so.

If the coverage you bought covers the tires, you are golden.
