Window Tint Removal Help
Dealer tinted my windows upon delivery in January 2011. Unfortunately, several windows are now delaminating. The work came with a lifetime warranty, but should tint delaminate in four years’ time?
Planning to have the work redone, but concerned that removal of the existing tint may be difficult / problematic and may cause damage. Anyone know how tint is removed and if it can be done safely, without risk of damage to the windows / leather / electronics on the doors? Thank you. |

Yes it can be done safely. Just leave it to the dealer if your tint was dealer installed and it is warrantied.

That's how u remove tint. U can Peel off the tint but it will leave the residue from the tint on the window. Use a spray bottle with soap/water and it'll scrape off with a sharp razor blade. It'll look like SNOT LOL!

I just removed the 2 front windows of my wife's lexus and it was pretty simple....time consuming but not hard. I used a hair dryer to soften the glue and used a razor blade to scrape. I couldn't even imagine doing the whole car but it's not a big deal for the pros. The dealership will just send your car to a contract tint shop and they'll remove and replace everything in 1/2 hr and your windows will look brand new. If you've accidentally scratched your tint by accident like I did, you'll have to pay for the fix.

Since it came with a lifetime warranty, bring it back to the dealer and let them worry about fixing it.

Finally got around to bringing my car in to get the tint issue sorted and told they’re only covered during the factory warranty period, which I’m about 6 month past. Could’ve sworn the tints came with a lifetime warranty, and for a $500 job, they should have.
I’ve written the sales manager, but anyone know if Rallye BMW ever covered tints under a lifetime warranty? I’ve had the delaminating problem for a while, but it’s gotten worse. Dealer is now quoting $300 to redo the side windows... Last edited by dbs600; 08-17-2015 at 10:27 AM.. |

$500 already seems extremely high to tint the whole car. In your case since whoever the dealer sub contracted the work out to the first time didn't do it right, I would not trust the dealer with another $300.
I recommend to find a reputable tint shop in your area and have it done right if the warranty does not apply. |

My tint comes with a lifetime warranty. Has nothing to do with BMW'S warranty for the car itself. So if it starts to turns purple or starts to bubble in any way...they will warranty it. actually the commercial company who installs tint for that BMW dealer will warranty it.

If you choose to remove the film yourself, once you have the film off there will be the adhesive residue left on the glass - use the Pure Citrus orange air freshener, you can get it at Home Depot, it cuts right through that glue and you won't have to worry about scratching your windows with at razor blade. It also works great at removing greasy marks and tar.
