BMW Apps Question
Guys, I tried a search on BMW Apps but had no luck.
I have a 2011 535i (with Combox) and have enjoyed it for over a year and a half now. My older brother had decided that he would like to to get a 535 as well, but wants to make sure he has the same integrated features that my car does. My 2011 can stream Pandora through my Blackberry. I also downloaded the Blackbery app where I can read my e-mail messages and see my calender. With the Combox I have iPod Album artwork and although the iPod integration works well, it it not the latest that you all have with the 2012's.......as well as not having Facebook or Twitter. My question is this. What are the "BMW Apps" that BMW wants to charge for? Should my brother order this with the car? Is this Software or Hardware? Thanks |

The BMW apps that BMW charge for is just the software in the CIC to support the program running on an iPhone or iPod (or Android future). For the iPhone or iPod you typically run an application on these devices (BMW connected) and the BMW apps software of the CIC talks to this.
In the UK we have Facebook, Twitter, Web Radio and Calendar. In the US you also have Pandora. There were meant to be other apps following but none have materialised. Last October BMW announced they were also going to support Android Apps and they would be released by the end of the year (2011) as yet these have not materialised. Are they still coming anyone know? |

They also promised a SDK so developers world wide could make better apps, but it's yet to be seen.
I really like the web radio, but canned tweets is really just rubbish. |

I have a Blackberry and I get Pandora streaming and office email / text messaging without any App; just using the following native Blackberry OS Bluetooth Profiles: Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) Message Access Profile (MAP) However, I do not have any Calendar functionality. Is this what the App adds?

Yes I think the blackberry app gets you the Calendar function. I also have email and text but no calendar. Quite expensive for such a small app at £15 if I remember right.
