I think its important to treat online conversations the same you would real life conversations. Threads can veer a little, and opinions/insights can be a little odd amongst each other but thus is life. I hate to see people at odds with each other on otherwise a pretty even keeled friendly forum.

The first response to my post was sarcastic.

I simply asked if other folks had the issue - I didn't need someone to respond with the wrong answer ("DRL shut off in iDrive") and then attack my question ("next thing people asking about low temp warning" and "it will go off in April").

So next time, how about PM'ing me and not taking it to the master thread. Don't be passive-aggressive when an instigator and YOU are the ones who set me off.

I don't think there is any way to adjust light sensitivity in the software unless bmw provides for this.. unless u want to reduce it manually put some tint on the sensor

I also note that my headlights are always on together with the DRL angel eyes whatevr the light levels or conditions. I can only have the angel eyes on if I choose side lights rather than automatic.

Isnt this just a case of DRL option ticked in i-drive = headlights on constant. DRL off in i-drive and light switch to auto = headlights work perfectly on and off with sensor?

Whilst angel eyes look so much cooler i do not believe that they operate as Daytime Running Lights on this model (unlike my last E60).

Thats incorrect. At least in Canada the angel eyes function as DRL. And the headlights do respond to lighting conditions. As I've state it always turns off and the angel eyes stays on in cloudy conditions but headlights stay on in bright sunshine and blue sky.

Is there a way to have the fog lamps go on when the headlights do when switched on the A setting?? Very annoying now, I have to manually turn on the fog lamps at night when the headlights come on automatically.

Low Beam in European Countries par some is forced by European Union Directive 2008/89/EC and in this case DRL to be on during day and up to 2012 that will include Trucks and Buses.

The angel eyes function as DRL when lights are Xenon ones, this is the case with my car, and you get the low beam on with the angel eyes when standard, this is what I gathered from another tread.

Are you saying that you want foglamps to come on - even if it is not foggy ??

Surely this is just for young posers or people who like to annoy others ?

I have had my headlights lit when set on A at literally every hour of the day no matter how sunny it is. The one I test drove had the lights on in the middle of the afternoon. I asked the dealer about it and they had no clue. We actually drove it around together to try to figure it out. It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't a stupid green head lamp indicator that seems to come on randomly. Annoying.

I often have this issue too.

I never had this issue on my old E46. It was always smart enough when to turn it on or off.

I've taken my car in for service regarding this issue. The light sensor is located behind the rear view mirror where the rain sensing wiper housing is. They fixed the problem for a while, but now it's happening again. I'll complain about it again the next time I take it in. I've had my windshield replaced twice already because of cracks and I suspect the guy who did the work messed something up.

Auto Lights

The sensor is the same one used for the rain detector. It's a small window through the windshield in front of the rear view mirror. It is designed to activate when the sun is on a low angle, such as sunrise or sunset when people are sometimes blinded by the sun. It also activates when the light goes below a certain level - like a tunnel.

If it's on more than that, take the car to the dealer. It's under warranty isn't it?

The reason people are having this "problem" again is the seasons are changing (angle of sun is lower).

My "issue" started about the same time last year. I just turn my lights off (but this disables the automatic welcome light).

Just curious - how many of you park your car in a garage? If so, make sure you keep the light switch off (not Auto) before you leave your car

Well dont worry - they won't stay on once the engine is stopped and the car is locked. They should turn off after a time-out period even in auto position.
