Service - Spark Plugs
Got an email from my dealer "your BMW told us its time to come in"
The services listed are: Engine Oil Vehicle Check Spark Plugs This is my first BMW that I've owned past the regular maintenance warranty, my 535i x-driver is CPO but of course that doesn't cover maintenance. How much does the spark plugs maintenance cost roughly? Hope I'm not in for a raping. |

lol, you're in for a raping. They charge so much for labor that these things cost a lot.
I'm sure you're paying at least $400 total. Does your car say it needs these services? |

Awesome. I haven't checked the navi screen just yet, I just know I have service due in about 1200 miles. I'll see what it actually lists. I do know it needs an oil change for sure, vehicle check could just be general BS.
I have about 38K miles. |

Thanks for the advice guys. I will talk to my SA and then if its ridiculously high I might just get some of the work done at the dealership and the plugs done elsewhere.

I'm quoting what the dealer will charge. Of course, they will only use BMW OEM parts so it's going to be more expensive. They charge something like $100/hr for labor.

Platinum = long life span, normal performance, highly resistant to erosion from spark, 2-3x longer than copper, fairly price, more consistent performance and fuel economy over its lifetime than copper. Iridium= +15-20% longer life than platinum, normal performance, more resistant to erosion, expensive, consistent fuel economy and performance over its lifetime. I would stick with OEM. They tested out each product and picked which one worked best for the engine overall. If you want the best plugs, it's copper but be prepared to do a lot more maintenance. FYI- while iridium and platinum last logger than copper. If you modify your car, it doesn't really matter much. Unless you got a really good tune, you're going to change out spark plug quite often. If you're going for power, there's nothing better than copper. I would not pick one over the other for better fuel efficiency because it's a difference of maybe 2%. Car is getting close to needing service and I just talked to an SA that gave me a bit of a discount... $500 total for all 3... Think I should go somewhere else?

Pass on the vehicle check, the dealer charged me $150 for this service yesterday and its basically a multi point inspection that can be done free at any indie shop.
you can reset the VC warning yourself on the dash which I should of done myself... |

The lady at the front desk said she wasnt sure but look to be around 350$ for spark plugs
Looks like I'll be doing it myself or finding a local shop to do them.

If you're willing to get dirty then just do it yourself and save $250. It will take you about 1-2 hours. Any reputable independent shop with a certified BMW tech will cost you pretty close to dealer price.
