Need a quart of oil

My car says I'm at the minimum level of oil. When I look at the previous oil service doc they added:

7 07-51-0-017-954 BMW SYNTH.BULK-5W30

I can't get to the BMW service shop to buy a quart. Which type of oil should I dump in?

Any synthetic 5w30?

Why don't you just wait until you're in the area of the dealership and stop by and let them top it off for free. Running at the minimum is not going to damage the engine.

My 550's drink oil every 3k miles just about, I don't drive with a lead foot either. I use the Castrol Syntec 5w30, this is what I was told BMW uses. The manual should confirm that. They (my dealer) told me that the BMW performance oil is just Castrol Syntec 5w30

I could wait I suppose; but it'll be a few days at least until I can get over to one. I only drive like 6-10 miles per day.

Every 3k miles? That's normal for a Chevy, but not a high end Euro car. That can't be good for the car in the long run. I keep pushing these manufacturer to produce oil catch cans for the 5 series, but demand isn't high enough.

By the way, the Castrol Syntec on the shelf isn't fully synthetic. It's refined crude oil synthetic blend with additives. The oil from BMW is Castrol Syntec Euro, which is fully synthetic. I would stock up on BMW's oil.

Mobile 1 isn't fully synthetic either. Just read the fine prints.

Little over 10k miles in about 1 year.

I have added 2 qts in .5 qt increments over this time.

I use Mobil 1 0W40 which is available here in Germany.

Add oil whenever your car asks for it and change the oil in full when required. No correlation between the two. If your car is requiring oil at an abnormally frequent rate then that could be something to look into.

Idk when the last oil change has been done, I haven't changed the oil since I bought it 6 months ago. I added a quart of oil little over a month ago.. Then 1600 miles later , today, I got a message to add another quart.

So maybe for peace of mind you want to do an oil change since you don't know how long it's been in there.

My dealer said that if the warning message comes on about low on oil no need to freak out but to bring it in at your convenience to have it topped off for free.

Now that I remember, it got an oil change with the CCP, about 5k miles ago, at 58k miles.

I just added 3/4 quart castrol 0w-30 euro . Is that a good oil?

If you look at the oil cap, it tells you to use Castrol. Mine does and I'm sure others does as well unless I have special caps.

That is because BMW used to have a deal with castrol (BP) which is why they recommended castrol oil and BP gasoline. As of 2015 BMW now has a deal with shell which is why they have rebranded their oil and now recommend shell nitro gas. It's all about $$$
