What's happening with Low F10 Sales?

In reference to this...
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1157772

What's happening with the F10 sales? The 5 is still a very attractive car and even fully loaded its better optioned and cheaper than a decent F01. I understand why sales would be low on the F01 being it's last year, but these seem pretty week numbers for the F10 with 18 months of life left.

I guess its reflected in how much traffic has dropped on f10.5post.com in the last few years.

I've never seen so much f10 here in New York than now. Is your sales number based on new car sales? I think with the f10 depreciation rate, the used car market has been really attractive over the new car market

Yes New cars. But most people lease their F10's so I don't think used car sales would make up for such a drop. The residuals for 535 at still strong at 63% (36/mo 10k/yr) so I wouldn't think BMW is worried about used car sales being a problem in the future.

The F10 has been around since 2011. Probably a combination of BMW lowering production and retooling for the G30, and buyers are looking for something new. So they either wait for the G30 or crosshop to other brands. Considering the X series are selling like hot cakes, I'm sure plenty of F10 drivers switched over to the X5.

Only if you want a truck/station wagon instead of a car. I know I don't ever anticipate switching to an SUV.

That's a good point on how long the f10 is out. It might be on its last leg. I think it would be a better analysis if we know how much was produced vs how much sold so we can determine the ratio is tea of sheer sales number.

That's just you. What other people see is the X5 actually being cheaper than the F10. So why buy the sedan when you can have an SUV that are more practical. I'm sure if you just look beyond your driveway, you will see America's love affair with large vehicles.

I added to the sales number yesterday when I traded my 328i for a new 528i. I was not even considering a larger car until I spent some time inside one and realized how cheap the F30 feels by comparison. It was also an amazing deal compared to ordering a '16 328i, which improved but still has a cheaper feeling interior.

Agreed. Why pay for a new one when you can get a CPO for mid to upper 30s.

The residuals are better on the 5 right now than the 4. So that's why I'm surprised. BMW seems to have more confidence in the F10 with holding value yet sales are way down. My local dealer was offering $389/mo for base 528i vs $409/mo for base 428i with same down. So that's kind of surprising.

I had considered going to an X5 but waited until I saw it in person. I was glad I did because the F15 just frankly isn't as nice of fit and finish inside compared to the F10. Its close but still not 100%. Example, what the deal with that odd shaped and way too deep hole below the shiftier? Doesn't seem well designed or thought out.

So assuming you're not buying the X5 because actually NEED an SUV, then I felt its a downgrade in quality. But more importantly, the residuals for the F15 are lower. So the F15 ends up costing more in real dollars terms. I'm actually kind of curious myself if there were many people who traded F10 for F15. I didn't think it was an upgrade.

My wife drives a '14 Yukon Denali. It's obviously much bigger than the X5 and you feel it in the ride. That thing rides better than my F10 in comfort mode. Would I want it as my DD? No. We test drove the X5 and didn't like it, and as mentioned, I too do not see myself going from a "car" to a SUV of any size as my DD.

E class sales are down as well (34% ytd), but that's roughly half the F10 drop.
Dingolfing is at full production, and they're nowhere near starting to retool for the G30 over a year away from production.

Oh.... I totally agree. SUVs are just a tall station wagon. We all know they rarely, if ever, go off-road!
