Anyone with experience regarding Integral Active Steering?

I'm aware of ARS and DHP, but still a little new to IAS. Does anyone have it on their cars (preferably 550)? How do you like/dislike it? Has anyone compared between a non-IAS and IAS-equipped 5er (or 7er)?

Appreciate the feedback guys. Big thanks as always.

I didn't know what IAS was (let alone that it was offered in our F10's), but Google took me here:

http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=661544

and here:

http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=675226

Granted, these are both threads from 2012, but they're asking the same basic questions as you are and as far as I can tell, the technology hasn't changed substantially.

I think I like it.

I just moved from a '12 535i (without) to a '12 550i (with) and it seems neat. Haven't had great opportunity to really push the 550i, but it feels at least as agile as the 535i which I wasn't expecting.

Low-speed turning radius is now amazing... seems like the car almost folds in the middle when you're making a tight maneuver.

Glad to hear you like it.

When I was researching this, before buying mine (doesn't have AS) I thought it was very neat design, perfect for a car this size. Making it feel more nimble by shortening turning radius.

I have all the systems on my car. When you hit sports or sports+ everything stiffens up. Its a little numb but you get used to it after a while.

Would you say to go for it?

My active steering only does the front wheels, so it changes ratios, stiffens up in sport mode, counter steers in dangerous high speed situations.

IAS does the same but also steers the rear wheels max 3 degerees.

I had it on my '12 550i (IAS and DHP), worked great! Biggest plus was turning radius also quick lane changes. I have a '15 M3 now and the turning radius on the 550i was shorter for a car a foot longer. I would say go for it.

Nice good stuff. Do you think it deadened the steering at all in your opinion? Some say the 4-wheel steering is strange at first but I'll get used to it.

Mine never felt strange to me and took no time to get acclimated.

Yes, go for it. My 2013 550 didn't have it but my 2014 550 has it. Big difference. IAS makes the car "lighter" on its feet and more agile. It's really needed on a car this size and weight.

I have it on my 2013 550i and it makes a huge difference. Definitely worth the price. You won't regret it.

Have it on my 2011 535i. Cost an extra $1750 and worth it. Response of the car to lane changes is very nimble.
