Extended Warranty + Maintenance for 550
Hello everyone! I'm planning to extend the warranty on my 550. Please share your experiences with extended warranty + maintenance. I was quoted 7-8k for both. Should I only get maintenance as recommended by my friend who's a dealer at BMWNA. I love this car so much so I don't want to sell it right now. Maybe in 2-3 years. Any recommendations? Thanks

I got an extended warranty through Route 66 for around $2700. My S.A. said do not buy the BMWNA warranty as they are way more picky about things to decline coverage for, and it's literally 3x the cost.
But I'm just paying for maintenance which isn't that much.

Maintenance, nah .. I personally do my own as its needed, and I always find OEM parts for cheap.
Warranty, yes I would get that extended, engine and electronics at least. Mine expires at 75k miles, I am about 30k miles away from that, and I dont plan on owning the car after that, due to me being scared I blow that engine.

Don't waste money on the maintenance. I'm at 80k miles and I paid for the maintenance around 48k miles to extend to 100k. I've yet to make half of my money back in maintenance costs. BMW refuses to change my brake rotor + pads because they claim they're still within tolerance

+1 on Route66. You might have to refinance your car loan with a credit union such as Penfed to get it. I plan on adding it to my 2011 550i when the CPO expires and already have it on my 2011 335i. Skip any maintenance warranty.

Thanks for the info. Looks like the Route 66 is a popular option. One of my friends recommended it too. I sent them a message today.

I have route 66 warranty a well, mainly because unlike the BMW extended warranty the route 66 warranty I got covers electronics as well as mechanical problems. I do my own maintenance, so in general the 5 series I have owned have cost me about the same as a Toyota Camry or Honda Accord to maintain. The only issues I have ever had were an iDrive and TCU failure in my 530 (which wasn't covered under CPO, since electronics are not covered), and an oil separator crack which happened after the warranty expired. The oil separator was interesting because the dealer said I needed new heads and wanted $4500 to fix, I consulted with a friend who is an ASE certified mechanic, he diagnosed the problem as the separator, I fixed it myself for $165
