ticking/clicking noise on turning

When I turn I hear a ticking/clicking noise on turn... I have a 535i x-drive... Anyone else experience this? Was it the CV joint? I do have a 2011, not sure if it fits under the recall for rear CV joint, or if it's something else. Hoping its not an expensive repair.

I have the same noise on my 2012 550i. I thought it was the steering rack because when I move the steering wheel side to side with the car off I can hear it, but it seems to also happen when I am turning and the suspension flexes. The noise is very annoying, hopefully someone has a fix.

I have an appt with the dealer on Monday... I hope it's a recall or just normal behavior... instead of an expensive repair.

Keep us posted. I read with others it was the steering rack.

I had this same issue. Can't remember what they did to fix it but I know it was expensive. Thankfully I had warranty.

Ugh... both CV boots are torn and dry, left axle needs to be replaced, right one a new boot and grease can be put on. Dealer can fix for $2300 for the left axle and right boot or $3600 for both axles... ugh..

Hello everyone,
Decided to continue in the existing thread.
535 Xi ~70k miles
Same issue:
Ticking/clicking noise on turn somewhere around right front wheel. Happens when I turn the steering wheel to the right more than 180 degrees. Around 2 clicks per wheel rotation cycle.
Also, I have very short random squeacking noises upon slow pass over speed bump/pulling from driveway with turned wheels.

Was trying to diagnose those issues in indie shop. They didn't really find anything: squeaks are from old bushings, suspension seems to be tight. The ticking noise not obvious, yet they believe the issue is in CV/axle.

I still have 1 month of extended drivetrain warranty. Really want to fix it till expiration. Just want to hear your opinions guys.
Thanks!

Check your strut mounts. I had similar issue going over bumps. All my suspension looked solid still which is very impressive for the age. All the BMW dealer did was re-torque one of the mounts and the noise went away. Be specific to the dealer about checking the mounts so they don't up charge you. When I took the car in I told them to fix a warranty item and check the mount first. They "inspected" everything else first and the mount last and charged me a few hours of labor for diagnostics, so be carful.

So annoying. I actually dropped the car for inspection and diagnosis. They keep saying they don't see any issues. Yet, I can reproduce this ticking every time if I turn steering wheel 270 degrees...

Oh boy.. I had to stop by to replicate the noise at the dealership.
Odd enough today I received update from BMW that they need to replace transfer box!!!
It was replaced less than a year ago.. Isn't that weird?

The dealer changes right axle. The noise is gone!

I have the same issue intermittently, seems to be dependent on temperature, as well as how hard the steering wheel is turned

I do know theres also a TSB about calibration updates for the transfer case that are supposed to "help" this issue.

If the strut tower bolts are loose, it will rattle. Those who plan on tightening these bolts, take care in torquing bolts. They easily strip.
