Protuning Freaks or Mission Performance
Hi 5 series folks. I didn't get a response to my question on the 6 series post, so I wanted to see if the 550i owners have some honest opinions and guidance they could share. I just bought a 2016 650i GC and have been reading the forums about flash tunes, and the two that seem to really stick out (to me at least) are by Mission Performance and Pro Tuning Freaks BM3. I would love some guidance from folks who were swayed in one direction vs the other. These two seem to be the most complete and properly researched flash tunes with some very impressive performance numbers.
Also, I have installed ER catless down pipes and n63intake.com for the car. I'll likely be tuning NorCal 91 pump for daily driving, and will NOT be adding E85/meth Really appreciate the feedback on one direction vs the other. Last question. If I am doing a flash tune, is there any benefit to adding a piggyback such as JB4? |

That being said, I haven't heard of the BM3 doing much for the N63tu. BM3 is more for custom tuning, allowing one to play around with it to find the right settings. I haven't heard anyone run the Mission Performance tune yet, although those numbers do sound promising. I run a tune from DME Tuning, they're good friends of mine. The car runs great, and I've had no drivetrain malfunctions or any major issues even with pushing the car hard. If you'd like to check them out, let me know and I can get you in touch with them. Also, a fellow N63tu with just the DME tune (not even great tires either) rather 11.7 in the quarter mile. Not too shabby

I've had several flash tunes minus the ProTuning and all have had hiccups. The most consistent flash I've had is through Mission Performance. After data logging with MP its smooth as butter with over 30k and still going strong. My neighbor got the MP tune after trying mine and he has a 2014 750i. The thing is an absolute beast!
Mission Performance at Roval Speedway 550i N63 I'm running mine in 2 weeks with MP at the same track. Will post afterwards.

Quite a few of us on here have Mission Performance flash tunes, myself included. Alex MissionPerformance is a great guy and does awesome work. I've installed a number of his tunes on client vehicles as well, no complaints and phenomenal gains.

Just a shame no one but Dinan offers a ECU tune on Non TU engines. I have been emailing places all over the country and yet to find someone that CAN, or has experience tuning a JB4 on a Non TU, with Dinan intake, exhaust, intercoolers and then adding Alpina Turbos, M5 downpipes, 90 degree thermostat, N63intake Oil temp sensor, and then new TMAP sensors, NGK plugs 2 spark levels cooler When I start talking specifics on what should be added, or experience, no one seems to have this setup tested. WHich is surprising because this Is pretty much the only path for 2011-2013 550 F10's. Being the only path of having better intercoolers and an intake system that works in all road conditions for tens of thousands of miles. I also tried difference cat back exhausts on the car and the Dinan was the only one that retained the "BMW" sound of a nice growl, but not hitting crazy drone Db levels in cabin at highway speeeds.
BMS tune lets you turn your performance on and off with B/C control which would make any F10 a daily driver. Then on demand, you can set custom maps IF SOMEONE had experience working with these cars. |
