M5 sound from a 550?

i just love the sound of the M5 with the Akrapovic exhaust. All the youtube vids sound awesome.
Dumb question. i have the M5 mufflers on my car and I like it but want that akrapovic sound like on the M5.
Is it possible or is it the tuning of the M5 that give it that sound also? ( M5 timing and Turbos are setup different on the N63 motors)

Has anyone with a 550i gotten close to it, or am I living a dream?

Catless downpipes will do the trick .

Here's my exhaust setup:

It's louder than the RPI GTM on a F10 M5

The M5 has its unique sound do in large to the design of the split pulse exhaust manifolds.

Actually put different exhausts on my car and the only one that kept the "German" growl was the Dinan Cat back. Keep in mind any exhaust you purchase should have the Vacuum enabled flap on 2 of the 4 exhaust ports. This helps to eliminate drone at highway speeds.

Comes down to this, do you want a BMW that sounds like Dodge Charger and you have to turn the radio up driving on the highway or do you want something that sounds good at WOT and is tolerable the rest of the time? There are hybrid solutions. You can obtain M5 Downpipes, which have a larger CAT on them and then add an X pipe into the main exhaust and finish it out with a set of Dinan Cat Backs. You can find others that have adapted the M5 exhaust to fit the 550 with some brackets modified. Or you can go for one of the many after market exhaust out there. Personally, the only thing that sounded "right" on my 550 was teh Dinan mufflers. It is personal choice, but go to a BMW meetup or find out when there is a track meetup and listen to what others have.

I hear you but I think Stück hit it on the nose. I totally forgot we share the same block of the M5 but the Timing and the split exhaust setup across banks is what creates that sound I'm liking. its the higher RPM range that sounds amazing. The Turbo exhaust manifold is really the muffler in our cars which adds to the exhaust notes.

Oh well, M5 it is.

Yeah I agree for sound, but with Alpina turbos, m5 downpipes, Dinan or bad black intake, Dinan intercoolers and Dinan or other reasonable sound exhaust, you can have M5 stock power in a 550 but with all wheel drive. My choice of the 550 was the fact I live in the NE and have to have AWD, so I am building a M550 basically. Lol. I can live in the near 600 Foot pound of torque and high 11's low 12's in quarter.
