best mp3/ iTunes format

Hi folks,
if space is not an issue what mp3/ iTunes format you recommend for best sound quality on standard BMW hifi system? I always buy CD's instead of MP3 for my home hifi system as I rather have the best quality when at home, I have all my collection on my iPod classic in my car, but now I am thinking of importing all my music again at higher kps, like 302KPS instead of the default 128kps, and maybe different format too. any suggestions.

my personal view on the matter is that on principal I won't use a lossfull compression format as i just don't believe in throwing away data.(Why make something worse than it was)
I use lossless WMA files on a USB stick.

However, given tha that a car is certianlly nowhere near an ideal place to hear true hifi, I'd suggest MP3 at 320k as good compromise - I and I'd bet money you (and I ) would not be able to tell the difference.
(I know that sounds contradictory from me!)

At the end of the day, if you are happy with teh sound quality with which ever format you use, then thats whats counts. A lossless will however give you the best technical (even if not detectable) reproduction.

even with lossless format, car is not a very good audio-listening environment due to road noise, engine noise, etc so same stance as AP on this.(like lossless format but sure as hell my ear/system can't tell difference between 320k and lossless) Depending on how much music you have, I'd just go for 320k and put it all on a USB stick and put it in center armrest. I used to use ipod in my car, but response was way slower when skipping/fast forwarding compared to USB stick. Apple lossless is good but if you ever dump apple environment = big pain.

Apple Loseless is an "mp4 format" and is not dependent on the Apple Ecosystem for playback.

I always try to utilize the "best utilitarian" format regardless of the listening environment. I like AIFF but the BMW will not rip that format to the hard drive. Apple Loseless is adequate for my needs.

I like the BMW iPod interface because you get the album art work and artist info.

Thanks folks, I am definitely updating my collection to 320k, I am also planning to test this over next few days to see if any difference, before going ahead with my music collection, I also like BMW iPod interface with album art work and artist info, hence more likely to stay with my classic iPod, shame about the resolution affecting the quality of the art work, sharper graphics when playing music via my iphone.
