Tyres

Just had a puncture on my f11 530d ms, after 50 miles at 50 mph the sidewall came away from the tyre on one side, not good......
So here's my question to you guys - has anyone any opinions on the different tyre brands, I have always had Michelin pilot sport run flats on my 3 series which always amazed me how well they gripped and lasted. My 530d came with good year eagles, ok in the dry but shocking in the wet (although admittedly good fun ) and clearly not much use in the run flat mode. Michelins were not available so have fitted Pirelli pzero run flats - does anyone have any experience of any of these tyres ? Seems to me makes a huge difference to a car so why not stick with one brand.......

Hi Bandiano

My 520d M sport came with these on (19" tyres). The fronts lasted me around 40k - on my second set of these now and the backs were changed at around 25k. They are due to be changed in a few thousand miles. But I guess how long they last is dependant on the driving style. Overall I think the p zero's are a good tyre. Hold the road well in both the wet and in dry conditions. I used to have Bridgestones on my e90 which were a bit better though i'd have to say - bit more fun in the wet!

(I've always found kwick-fit to be the cheapest for the pirelli's when ordering online)

I'm on Continental Sport Contact 3 SSR (18"), working well for me. The CSC 3's have earned a good reputation in the family in non RFT specifications on other vehicles.

Not decided whether I will replace with like for like, or try something else.

Anyone looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 3 (A/S 3) tyres.

The reviews are quite amazing; it beats well known summer tyres and also works as winter tyre. I checked on the Michelin website and the tyres are available in almost all 18", 19" sizes and RFT/non RFT as well.

I have been trying to find a retailer in UK, but no success.

Anyone else have any luck finding them in UK.

My car came with the Michelin Primacy tyres. 14000 miles and still plenty of wear left on them.
I would say from the run flat perspective they are very good, I've travelled 400 miles on a flat at up to motorway speeds and the tyre was fine. I may have been lucky (and I wouldn't do it again with hindsight) but it does show that they are capable of more than the 50 miles / 50 mph limitation that I tend to read about.

For me, if I'm going to run RFTs, I'd like them to be up to performing that function, so I'd certainly be happy to buy these again. But I'll keep an open mind and look into the subject nearer the time they are up for replacement.

My 5 came with Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's on it, handling is ok wet and dry but they done seem to be as robust as the Bridgestones that I have run on previous BMW's. Had one with a buldge in it and another got a puncture which my local tyre shop told me I can not have repaired as it is a Dunlop, Bridgestones can be repaired.

Pirelli P7 on mine but not that impressed to be honest. Bridgestones were on my 520 and I thought they had better grip in the wet.

Interesting that no two cars so far have the same tyres!

Garage List
Continental Sport RTF 96Y (245/45/18). Came with car but have found them sticky in dry and good in wet (technically a summer tyre).
