Welt tour -- behind the scenes
I'm in Munich; my delivery at the Welt is tomorrow (Monday, August 1). I ended up going to the Welt and registering yesterday (Saturday, July 30). The person registering me said that since it was a Saturday, I had the opportunity for a tour of the Welt at 2:00 PM, which I decided to take. In addition to walking around the public areas, they also took us down a level into a restricted area, showed us a couple of videos, including one on what happens with our cars at the Welt prior to delivery. They also showed us the area where the cars (a couple of hundred at a time) are stored prior to delivery. Very cool.
Has anyone else gotten this tour? Is it really only offered on Saturdays? Does everyone get the "behind-the-scenes" stuff, or is that just for new owners? Regardless, it's a fun enhancement to the experience. The only disappointment so far is that the kinetic sculpture at the BMW Museum (the one with the stainless steel balls hanging on individual threads) was damaged by water, so it's closed. There's pictures of it at the beginning of the F10 brochure, and I really was looking forward to seeing that.

Looks like you got a special treat. We did not receive the "behind the scene" tour. Although, the museum was open where we spent almost half a day, taking in all the BMW history & lots of pics...

By the way, delivery was amazing. They arranged to do it earlier than my scheduled appointment so I could get out of the city before rush hour. They also arranged it so that I could be on the Premium Lounge balcony above the delivery area to watch my car come out of the glass elevators. This was an amazing experience. I drove to Kreuth for dinner last night, then drove north beyond Munich airport. Today, I drove to Neuschwanstein Castle. I had to park under a tree (sap on the car -- yuck), but I was able to set the cruise control at 100 MPH for quite a while. WHAT A CAR. It's now covered in both sap and bug guts, but it's a stunningly awesome machine. Ultimate, indeed.
Tomorrow's plan is to visit the TechnikMuseum at Speyer, and then visit the Nurburgring. I'd appreciate everyone's prayers (to the deity of your choice -- I'm covering all bases) because the forecast is for rain, and I would much prefer to drive a dry track.

Will do -- I tried, but they're too big, so they scroll off the edges of the screen. I'll try to resize the JPGs and post. (Suggested pixel dimensions?)
I got a shot today of the car (a 550i with M Sport Package) in front of a BMW M facility in a teeny little village called Nurburg. Seem they have this road called the "Nurburgring". (Tongue firmly in cheek.) I did two laps in wet conditions, and the car -- Michelin RFTs and all -- was AWESOME.

Kwel pics.
Love the delivery elevator shot. Also, like the carbon/Cinnamon combo with M-sport, although am happy with my B/B combo. How did the manual gear box handle on the track? |

Excellent, though with all the torque of the twin-turbo V8, I pretty much just left it in 3rd most of the time. I did, however use 4th through 6th on the final straight on the 'Ring.
