HELP!! Water leaked inside car and dealership won't cover

Hey guys. The other day we had a bad rainstorm and water leaked into my car leaving a little puddle of water on the driver's side floor but in the rear. A little water was also in the front driver's side. Car threw all types of codes including disc and xdrive malfunction and I was unable to drive the car. I dropped off the car at dealership to have them call me back 5 days later and inform me that a drainage plug was clogged and that nothing will be covered under warranty because it is not a "manufacturer defect" THIS IS ABSURD! I purchased the vehicle from this dealership a year ago as a 2012 CPO it still has warranty, shouldn't this be covered as it was not my fault that a new vehicle was leaking water inside??? estimated damages are $4300! Please help

Not that I need to lie or anything it's just that I am inexperienced in this as I never had to contact them before.

Just tell them the truth and then tell them how bad they are treating you. If it is an error with the car that has not been caused by the user, they would have to fix it under warranty. Even if the warranty doesn't cover it, most of the dealerships that I know would fix it out of courtesy.

Tell them you will contact BMWNA if they don't provide you with an appropriate level of service as this problem should be under warranty.

You've had the car for a year. Is it kept outdoors? If so, there could be a problem from your failing to keep, in effect, your gutters cleared. Tom and Ray will tell you that, even if the BMW owner's manual doesn't.

Then again, there might be an issue whether the car was properly detailed and clean when you bought it, if drain tubes were clogged already at that point.

Depending on these things, you might not have warranty coverage. But you might have insurance coverage of some kind. Check both car and homeowner/renter policies for coverage of water damage.

Either way, it's a lesson to me -- my car is not garaged, and accumulates tree debris in the spring and the fall, so I'm on alert thanks to you.

Sounds like you should be able to turn it into your insurance company?

Where in the owners manual does it say that we need to keep the drainage tubes clear? I don't even know where they are!!

you have 2 options.
1. contact BMWNA and open a case. They will deal with the dealership if the issue was with the car and not user caused.
2. You can file an insurance claim. Pay your deductible and report the damage. Have the dealer replace everything. Check your comprehensive coverage. Allstate covers storms/water damage.

good luck

The truth will set you free!!!! But really BMWNA should be able to help you unless you did something that might have caused the issue.

Let me guess....you took the car to Life Quality BMW in Brooklyn?

Those guys are crooks. Get BMWNA involved and tell them the truth. There is NO WAY this isn't covered under warranty. Don't let them walk all over you.

Guys thank you all for the fast responses. I've always felt like my service advisor was never on my side and it's sad considering I purchased the car from them. This is bad business on their end, I will probably never buy a car from them again. When my SA told me about the damages I mentioned BMWNA and she went ahead and actually gave me their phone number. Anyhow, I am going to contact BMWNA and get this ball rolling. Thanks again I will provide an update when available.

Life Quality of BMW in Brooklyn is one of the worst in terms of service And customer satisfaction. That's another place I won't go to. I guess next time I will go to bmw of Manhattan and try them out for any future warranty repairs and maintenance

I live 10mins from Life Quality and I still rather drive over an hour to go to Rallye to buy my BMW and get it serviced. Thats saying a lot....

The same thing happened to me a month ago. The dealer did a water test and the rear door seal was at fault. The weird thing is that I rarely open my rear doors because I have a family SUV for when I go out with the kids. Anyway, the dealer fixed the issue, removed the car floor carpet and cleaned it.

Rally's is awesome my family had bought a Lexus from them once. I purchased my car from Commecticut but live in NYC so to drive over an hour for this type of service is unacceptable

They should fix your car; if the leak was caused by a bad seal your warranty will cover it. There is a water pressure test that they can do to confirm bad door seals. This has happened to a few members here.

Supposedly according to the dealer it was because of clogged drain

Just got off the phone with BMWNA. "Sorry, there is nothing that BMWNA can do for you at this time." WHAT A JOKE! $60k car and this is how they treat customers.

Try another dealer, they might help you to gain a customer. The dealer that did the repair for me is not the dealer I bought my car from. I bought my car in California and the dealer that fixed my car is in Louisiana.
