Drivetrain malfunction error message

On the last couple of times out, the main screen and head's up display have both displayed "Dirvetrain Malfunction; Maximum output not available." when the engine revs above 3k RPMs. We're bringing the car in for service tomorrow morning, but I'm wondering if anyone has experienced similar problems and can help with a little advice/perspective in dealing with the service folks.

Baby bimmer here - 5k miles. The car also seems to have a little trouble turing over; not sure if this might be related in some why (not sure why it would be), but I'm getting concerned about the possibility of needing major repairs on a brand new car. Any related experience out there?

I have this same error. It first showed up when the car had 120 miles on in after getting up to about 3,500 RPM. The error message went away, so I dismissed it as a breaking in issue. Yesterday, the error came back, now with 230 miles on the car. That happened at a whopping 2,000 RPM. I take the car to the dealer in the morning. We'll see.

After all of the fuel system problems in my 2008 535, it is disappointing to already be having issues.

I had this problem in my August 2011 delivery three times in 3 months. Lots of shuddering and power loss and frustration. After fuel pump change and telling me a variety of things they asked what fuel I use. I said petrocanada ultra 94 octane. They measured ethanol in
My fuel which came back at 15%. They said stop using ethanol containing fuel. Told me to switch to Shell 91. It's been 2 months since. Haven't had the problem. They said its the engines way 'to protect' itself from 'bad' fuel. I found it hard to believe that the most expensive high octane fuel is bad for my F10 but hey what do I know. So far so good.

In Canada, there are 3 top tier brands. I stick with these:
Chevron Canada
Esso
Shell Canada

Had the same problem with my old F10 and my new one at only 44miles! It was due to the fuel lines and the positioning of them which were located right above the turbos. Hot ass turbos + fuel lines positioned right above the turbos results in the gas evaporating and basically it will be just air in the fuel lines. They replaced my fuellines and had them wrapped with heat shield tape and its been good ever since. Goodluck
