I considered Interlagos Blue, but to my eye it's just a little too "electric" of a blue, or "bright". On the other hand, Le Mans Blue is a very attractive blue that doesn't have that overly metallic look that I think Interlagos Blue has. A friend of mine has a 2010 335i convertible with the M Sport package in Le Mans Blue, with Oyster interior, that I think looks just perfect (although I'd prefer the beige leather interior on my F10). But thanks for the suggestion !

Did I miss any ?

BMW BLUES

1. Biarritz Blue (7 series, my original favorite BMW Blue)

Thanks for the addition; that's a spectacular blue. Unfortunately, that color does not appear to be available in the US, as there are no Individual colors offered for the 650i. The only BMW that has Individual colors in the US is the 7-series, at least according to the bmwusa.com web site (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). For the 7-series, there are 4 Individual colors shown, one of which is Azurite Black... much too dark for my tastes (see Blue #23 above).

Oh, right, I forgot about this one. Thanks for reminding me! I always think of this blue as Crayola Blue, similar to one of the blues that the Mazda Miata was offered in several years back. Thx.

In other words, I punted !
Just as an FYI the 2012 model year is a short one. September through June. 2013s will be released in July.

I ordered my 2012 as a September build. I put in Imperial Blue for now, but I may switch to Space Gray or Dark Graphite before it goes into production.

I don't know why it's a shorter model run for 2012.

I've had three previous BMWs, 1 arctic silver 97 328I cabrio, 1 2001 titanium silver 330i cabrio, 1 2004 titanium silver M3 cabrio.

I don't like silver anymore. My current car is a black Lexus. I like that but it's too much of a pain to maintain.

For the F10 my ideal color would be Interlagos Blue, but I won't pay up the 5.5k just for paint.

Have you seen Le Mans Blue on a 335i with the M-Sport package ? It really is a great color, IMHO.

I owned a silver MB 190E many years ago, but to me silver now looks boring (both Titanium and Cashmere), and white even more so. Black cars are too hot in SoCal heat, and you're right, they're a bear to keep clean. My wife's 2008 750i is Monaco Blue, very similar to Imperial Blue, and also way too dark, about as bad as black from a heat and cleaning perspective (and boring). Dark Graphite is just a lighter version of black, and Space Grey falls into the boring category (or at least the B&W category). I don't know WHAT color Tasman Green is, it certainly isn't green, really just another grey. (has anyone seen one on the road or at a dealer ? I certainly haven't). Milano Beige is kind of interesting, certainly not boring, but you can't get that color with the M-Sport package, so it doesn't matter anyway. Mojave ? Riiigggghhtt (never seen that one on the road or at a dealer's lot either). Deep Sea Blue or bust, or Le Mans Blue if I REALLY want to be happy.

I find that Imperial Blue looks good on sunny days because the reflection of the sky accentuates the blue. But under clouds it is not so great.

I do prefer deep sea blue. I also like LeMans blue a lot - my brother has that on his 330d M-Sport cabrio. But I do want the M-Sport and don't want to pay for paint, so that basically leaves me with choice of Imperial, Sophisto or Space.

I wouldn't bother with green or bronze or those other colors. I just find them to be non-BMW like.

I mentioned interlagos, but I think I really meant estoril is my favorite. I'd like my 550i to be this color:

Then you do indeed want LE MANS BLUE, not Interlagos or Estoril. The previous generation M3 (E46) color was Estoril Blue, but the current M3 (E90) is available in Jerez Black, Interlagos Blue and Le Mans Blue - no Estoril Blue. You and I have similar tastes. Interestingly, the new 2012 M5 will be available in Monte Carlo blue, which isn't bad, but it's a little on the lighter side, and not as nice a blue as Le Mans. So if I end up paying $5,500 for a special order paint color, I COULD go with Monte Carlo Blue on my M Sport 535i so it looked very similar to an M5, but I think I'd rather get the color I prefer, Le Mans Blue, and have something truly unique.

P.S. - Imperial Blue indoors looks black. Outdoors, if the sun is shining directly on the car from the direction you're looking at, you'll see a nice blue sparkle, but from the other side of the car, even on a sunny day, it still can be confused for black. Pass.

IS the price of a special order color $5,500 MSRP? Is there a lower invoice price for the special order color?

I don't believe there's an "MSRP" and corresponding "Invoice Price" for a special order paint color. I think it's $5,500, non-negotiable. Unfortunately.

It seems so much. $3000 I would pay. Maybe $3500. Above $4000 it feels like pissing away money.

Monte Carlo Blue is the one I would want. That's the color of the F10 M5 I posted above. It will be an M5 color so if I got a 550i M-Sport in Monte Carlo Blue it would look a lot like an M5.

I completely agree with you on the price I'd be willing to pay to get the color I want. For $2,500 - 3,000, okay, fine, but more than that I'd feel I'm doing something silly. BTW, at a BMW San Diego Car Club event yesterday (Saturday), one of the members showed up with his brand-new 335is that had just arrived in CA following his European Delivery program. His car was in Le Mans Blue; what a STUNNING color. That's it, I want this color on my 535i for sure. Monte Carlo Blue is pretty nice, but it's just a little on the lighter, "Crayola" side. But if that color was available as a no-cost option on a 535i with the M-Sport package, I'd be thrilled.

Okay Batman, Riddle Me This: Why not spring for an M5 so you can get the M-Sport look in the real-deal, in the color you like ? For me, it's a $30,000 premium over a 535i with the $5,500 special order color charge, but for you, on a 550i/M5 comparison, it's "only" about $24,000. I could afford it, but to be honest, I simply don't need 500+ horsepower, or even the HP of a 550i. Nor do I want to be shelling out $2,500 for new tires every 15,000 miles or so. But you're Batman !

I saw an M3i in Le Mans today. It is a beautiful color, but I think Monte Carlo will be more distinctive since its more rare.

I suspect the steering will be too heavy and the ride uncomfortable on the M5.

I am one of those who likes the electric steering, 8 speed transmission and Dynamic Handling Package on the 550i when in Sport Mode. I used to find my old M3 just uncomfortable to drive. It was a great car on the track for bombing around. But on a day to day basis, around town, it was uncomfortable, the heavy steering was exhausting, and the ride sucked on city streets. So for me the 550i with Dinan upgrade is better than an M5. I want a very fast luxury car, not a sports car.

Plus I think M5 attracts more police attention.

I love a manual transmission, and that was another reason I've held off buying a 535i just yet (in addition to the color issue): I keep going back and forth on the transmission. As I'm sure you know, less than 1% of F10's are ordered with the manual trans. At this point, I'm pretty much convinced that the 8-speed with paddles is the way to go, since this is indeed a large luxury car, and the 8-speed trans is an engineering marvel. But man, the Z3 that I bought at the end of June, with the 2.8 liter 6 and a manual transmission, is just a delight to drive. I'm really going to miss shifting gears myself. However, since my wife has the luxo 750i (with sport package!) we could just use that car when we have guests with us (or our adult kids) , so now my mind is wandering a little... that new 2011 Z4 35is in Deep Sea Blue looks pretty enticing ! Maybe I need to switch forums. Lol.

P.S. - If you end up buying a 550i and paying for the Monte Carlo Blue special paint, so much for having a stealth car... it'll look too much like an M5!

Z4 35iS is superb. I've driven it a few times with a manual and it is an outstanding chassis. You could equally buy the F10- and keep your current Z3 (Z3 can't be worth so much it makes a difference to your ability to buy F10).

Or you could get a new 640i with manual. That will also be a superb car - should be faster and more fun than the 535i. And the 640i is available in Deep Sea Blue.

Or you could get a new 640i with manual. That will also be a superb car - should be faster and more fun than the 535i. And the 640i is available in Deep Sea Blue.
How'd you get to drive the Z4 35is, at a dealer or a friend's ? Since you enjoy driving manuals like I do, was it tough for you as well to decide that your F10 is going to be an automatic, when the car is one of the only luxury sport sedans on the market even available with a stick ?

Yes, I could certainly keep my Z3 when I buy the 535i, and I'm leaning that way. I bought it for an absolute steal of a price from a neighbor who was the original owner, but had been keeping it parked on the street under a car cover for more than a year without driving it once. I bought it for $4,000 (!), put another $2,500 into it (new convertible top, $500 Vanos oil line repair and new oil filter housing gasket, seat-rail repair to prevent movement, some ding removal, repainted the bumper, engine detail, antenna repair, new steering wheel, etc. - but now it's in great shape, and it runs smooth and strong).

By the way, today I saw three F10's on the road: Dark Graphite, Black Sapphire, and Jet Black. I've come to the realization that 95% of all F10's on the road look boring. In fact, I have NEVER seen a single Deep Sea Blue F10 in person, either on the road or even at a dealer ! (I've seen pictures online of course). The more I think about, the more I'm leaning towards paying the damn $5,500 for Le Mans Blue just to add some excitement out there. Sad.
