Automatic handbrake question

Hi I'm not totally sure if some was already talking about this topic, but I wanted to ask what would happen if the driver suddenly falls a sleep or something worse happens and the front passenger
pulls/engages the automatic handbrake.

My understanding is that the electronic parking brake would work the same as a conventional brake in this circumstance.

I've done a couple of times while driving in the snow to test it out.
Here are some instances:
If you're below 5MPH and you pull the hand brake button up once without holding it up. It will engage the hand brake and you will suddenly jerk to a halt.

If you're above 5MPH and you pull the hand brake button up once without holding it up. It will do nothing, but a chime sound. If your holding up the button continuously, it will engage the hand brakes until you release it.

If the driver would pass out or some how became unconscious, the passenger can hold up the hand brake button.

A friend and I car-pooled to college which was about an hours drive. My friend fell asleep many times, when he was driving on the return trip in the afternoon. I would end up taking over and driving home. There was a cemetery near our homes (we lived a few houses apart) and the entrance was at the beginning of a curve. If you stayed straight, you entered the cemetery. Once, he almost made it home, but just as we were approaching the cemetery, I saw him nodding off. There were no other cars around, so I let him drive into the cemetery before I nudged him. Needless to say, he was greatly suprised to find where we were!

You narcoleptics should probably drive a Mercedes, which can nag you back into a state of higher alertness.
