Lower Suspension (H&R) = brocken CV boots

I just found out that both CV outer boots have cracked and leaked lots of grease out. Diagnose: lowered suspension. All the dealers I have visited have denied to put it through warranty and I will have to foot the bill $1000-$1500. I was told by 3 BMW dealerships in Michigan and 2 in Toronto that this is the first case of broken CV Boots on a F10 they seen.
Anyone has seen this or any advice? If it is the H&R how could it happen? Its just rubber... Plus if its H&R I cant afford to have my cv boots replaced every year

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated

Throw your stock springs back in and take it to a different dealer.

In hindsight, that's probably what you should have done from the beginning. Do BMW dealers put notes on customer accounts/VIN's regarding mods/changes like Audi/VW dealers do?

Guess I have to keep an eye on those since I'm even lower on coils.

I am starting to think wether install had something to go with it, since I know there is a lot of us here with lowered suspension and no one is coming forward with broken cv boots

Anyone else experienced broken cv boots caused by lowering?

I don't understand how lowering the car would cause CV boot issues. Wouldn't the normal range of suspension movement do the same? Doesn't make sense.

My guess is that the springs are not at fault. It was the installer that is at fault. Some guys remove the hub to gain access to the suspension strut and in the process have to remove the drive shaft. When it's time to reassemble, they whack the shaft back it (from the back). That opens up the rear seal...look for impact marks on the rear of the drive shaft..

Good luck

I had this happen to my old 535xi. It was installer issue. They probably over stressed the boot during the install and caused it to tear.

I've gone through a few CV boots on my car, which is pretty low, so it can happen. Might not the most common on this particular platform, but if you look into other applications, it's a lot more common than you think. I've replaced mine probably three or so times at this point.

I hope its the installer because I don't wanna have to change the cv boots every year. It gets pricey $1500 per year only to replace outer CV boots.

I can see how extremely lowered cars having constant CV Boot issues but most springs for the F10 only lower it 1"-1.25" so I am pretty sure its more to do with installer error.

Tried contacting him with no luck. Plus since I was referred there I sorta trusted him and did not even get a receipt just paid cash $260 I believe. For sure without a receipt I don't have much of a chance to put this on him/installer

When I brought my old 07 328xi into the dealership to get my rear left brake light structure fixed, I suddenly noticed in the paperwork that they had opened up my hood and put down "Aftermarket Intake"...so I think they do put it in their system...at least in the specific dealership's system.

Same here. 2012 F10 550i w/H&R's and no issues what so ever. In fact it was the 1st mod I did and I had it done at my dealership to ensure there weren't any problems with fitment or ride or alignment...therefore I'd hope if I had similar problems as yours I'd definitely get some good will there. GL and keep us posted.

How many miles are on your 535? I've had to do a lot of outer CV boot repairs in my years of wrenching, none of them were induced by a lowered car or during installation of springs.

In theory it should be ok, depends on if the CV boots lost all of their grease.
