Anyone with a NAS or home server?

Looking into getting one soon. My friends told me to get the HP Mediasmart home server. Anyone experienced with these units?

I was initially looking at the Seagate Black Armor but it is pricey.

I'm looking at doing an NAS or storage server too. I'm quite unhappy with my HP printer, so I'm not inclined to give HP any more money though.

I really like the looks of this one:

Probably go for the 4TB model setup as a RAID10....

Get a Drobo if you want a completely hassle-free unit. It's well worth the money if you want something easy that just plain works. They are easily upgradable (with zero downtime, in fact) and require zero setup or maintenance. I've had three since they first came out - a beta/pre-production unit, 1st gen, and 2nd gen.

I'm not affiliated in any way with Data Robotics, but they have a really great product. I can answer questions if you're considering one, just ask.

The Drobo looks pretty cool, but I'm not that thrilled about it being limited to just USB 2.0 or Firewire, unless you step up to the $1,500+ Pro or drop another $200 for their Droboshare.

A 4x1TB Drobo with Droboshare looks like it will run around $1,000. Ouch....
