Oil Question

Went to the dealer for an oil change. 2013 528i calls for 5-30w synthetic. Dealer put in 5-20w synthetic. When I asked why not the 5-30w that my manual says, she told me we don't have that. She offered to change it out for plain 5-30w!...No, I told her this cars motor was designed for synthetic only. How will the 5-20w syn. affect the motor?

As far as I know there is no branded BMW oil lower than 5w30, and if your dealer doesn't have that you should never go there if they can't even stock their own parts.

this makes no sense

no BMW dealer would carry non-synthetic oil (all require synthetic) or BMW approved 5W-20 (there is no such thing)

where did you go to exactly?

This is why I decided to do my own oil changes since I got the car (out of manufacturer warranty), since you have little to no control over what oil the shops use.

LL-01 options intended for our cars for USA market, since the gas has higher sulfur content:

do you happen to be leaking oil or do you have smoke coming from exhaust mufflers?

All of those options are incorrect.

BMW released a SIB some months ago mandating the 0W20 LL14 FE+ change for all N20's
