550 owners - is your range dot inaccurate?

In my 2015 550xi, when a destination is set, i am finding the white dot that appears in the range indicator to be highly inaccurate. Even with a full tank and a close by destination its overestimating how much fuel I am going to use (by hundreds of miles). Anyone else having an issue?

Any pics?

The closer you are to the destination the further to the left the white dot will be.

Are you reading it correctly? Any of the red bar to the right of the dot is spare fuel for the trip. It is only when the dot is in 'free space' do you need to worry about topping up fuel.

I think it a great little feature, as it shows at a glance it you can make the trip without refuelling.

Are you reading it right?

It's not really a fuel estimate. The dot just tells you how many miles away your destination is. It is not based on your fuel at all. They just put it on your fuel range estimate because if you happen to average the same mpg as the range estimate use to get that number, then the trip should be accurate.

Although it does relate to mpg and range remaining. I've started a trip where the dot is outside the range, (in space, not along the red bars) indicating a refuelling will be necessary before my destination. As the mpg improved through the journey, the dot then fell inside the range bars, so gives a quick identification of fuel remaining for the trip. Clearly you can get figures from the OBC for the remaining range, but nice to have a visual running on the main dash display.

Thank you all - I'll put this down to user error. I was reading it wrong - expecting the dot to be where my range will end up at the end of the journey.

Yes, so exactly like I said.

The dot is about distance of the trip(specifically distance remaining). It doesn't take into account anything besides what the nav estimate for your trip.

The bar is the range estimate based on your mpg. Of course if you drive efficiently, the range moves up. That's what happened to you.
