535i to M5 pros & cons?
So the wife gave me an early Father's Day gift and said if I wanted to trade the 535i for an M5. Here I had many plans for my 535i and I'm wondering if moving up to an M5 is worth it meaning maintenance, gas and such? She brought up a point and said why mod the 535i when you can mod a M5 instead? Which now I'm stuck in a predicament because I had plans on going KWV2... Mtech rear bumper...diffuser and Armytrix Exhaust on the 535i. What are your guy's pros and cons? Cost more for upgrades?

Wow, wish my mrs would suggest something like that! M5 in a heartbeat! As a standard car you'd be more than happy for some time I'm sure.

Cons????? Can't think of any. Consumption maybe, but hey, the fuel budget is usually the smalles one on any car.
I'm thinking about making that same swap myself, from the M550d to an LCI M5. I see no cons, and far to many pros to mention. Go for it, doubt you'll ever look back with regret. |

Those are two separate cars. If gas is your concern, I suggest to steer clear from a M5. It's like if you own a tiger, you can't put it on a diet.
And no matter how nicely you modify your 535i out. It will never be a M5. It will look like a wanna b slower version of a M5. If budget is not your concern, as it seems like it isn't if you're considering a M5. Then don't fool yourself and get the ultimate driving machine. Quote:

Suddenly that coffee mug kids made for me last Father's day just isn't "as special"
Cons: Most of us here will hate your guts , gas mileage and never fully utilizing the power you'll have at your disposal. Pros: Well.... everything else. |

I assume it's pretty easy.
Pros - More power and speed. Cons - More costly to drive and service/maitain.

The 5 series was created to be a 535.... a world class 6 cylinder german sedan. It's too big, heavy and soft to be an overpowered sports car. It never will handle, corner or break like an M3 or Porsche, and you look like a fool trying to drive it like one on either the street or the track.
Keep the 535, or upgrade to a 550. Or, keep the 535 and go buy yourself a Carrera for nights and weekends. |

The trick is to make enough money to keep the wife happy with whatever she wants and to keep the kids safe, sound and secure, and still have enough left over to do whatever you want.

I knew gas would suck...just like my Nissan Titan 13 mpg city So I'm use to crappy gas mileage. I was just wondering about service and maintenance. I have a couple of months to decide. There's no denying but having an M5 would be SWEET! |

Just make sure that your wife will not use them as leverage for her own goods, such as; Hermes Bag.

If money is not an issue I would def get the M5. Just keep in mind that modding cost ,for the most part, will be more than the 535. You don't want to be tight when owning a top tier BMW like an M5. Servicing and Maintenance will def be more without a doubt but once again if money is not the issue pull the trigger.

Wow! Wife of the year award lol! M5 is a monster and there are not many things on the road that compare to it 4doors or not! Just make sure you have a warranty, maintenance shouldn't too much over a different 5 series.(brakes and oil aside)
Not sure of any cons unless you see using more gas and probably going through tires faster as cons! That said anyone worried about fuel consumption you should not even be considering a 100k vehicle lol! Good luck and enjoy your beast!!! |

You better not be coming home with just a dozen roses and a box of chocolates on Mother's Day.
Just sayin'... Congrats on the pending upgrade!

Cons: Permanent smile burned on your face, more money into the State's (ticket) revenue, higher wife "fees", enduring looks of jealousy, for a few.
Then there's the niggly things like insurance, fuel, tires, not being able to fully utilize the power or speed potential; things like that. Last edited by ezaircon4jc; 04-20-2015 at 04:43 PM.. |

I have a 535 X Drive. The only thing holding me back from an M5 is the lack of AWD. As soon as the G30 M5 arrives with AWD, I'll make the switch. For those in now snow climates, I can't see any reason not to make the switch unless the cost and poorer fuel economy is a concern.
