535i arrive in port in Canada

Just found out my vehicle is landing today in Halifax I believe. I am taking delivery of it after July 1st. I save 3% sales tax by waiting until July 1st as there is a new tax here in BC (HST) that is reducing the tax on luxury vehicles from 15% to 12%.

It will kill me knowing that the vehicle will be sitting at the dealer in Vancouver for a couple of days but I will save about $2100.00 by waiting. Can't wait.

Wow. $2100 is worth it. You'll love the car.

ya it's one of the few things that the tax is actually lowering on. Most other things are staying at 12% tax or going from 7% to 12% so pretty sweet. Your car looks fantastics. I can't wait.

Another reason why I'm glad I don't live in Canada.Twelve percent? Yikes! Is that the total "sales" tax or is it in addition to a basic "sales" tax?

(The first reason that I'm glad? The weather! )

12% is the total tax. We used to have two taxes on most things. A 5% federal tax and a 7% provincial Tax. They have now combined them to 1 tax at 12%. The reason why it changed is there was also a 3% surtax on Luxury vehicles which would have brought it to 15% but this is now gone.

In terms of the weather, I guarantee you that you get way more snow in Connecticut than we do in Vancouver (didn't you see we had no snow for the Olympics!!!!)
