has your car had its software upgraded by default when serviced?

as I've just lost my coding virginity and just set auto stop start to last setting via esys 3.18 and 48.3 psdzdata, i was wondering if people here with F10's were finding that dealers were upgrading software when they got theoir car serviced?
I can understand if there are issues with the car but wondered if its a standard procedure.
I'm asking as from what I've read to date , certianly in the US, there seems a reluctance to upgrade software unless there is an issue.

I'm concerned that everytime i get teh car services, I may have to go through the recoding procedure and with new versions of teh data now requireing a newer versio of e-eye and tokens, its going to be a never ending scenario.

So any one in the Uk care to comments, what ths verdicit , do dealers pgrade software as a matter of course when services or only on a as required basis?

Hi,
The dealers generally don't touch the software unless there is a problem so your coding is safe. I had mine updated to allow for 7 digit postcode search (mine is an early F11) this cost me £125 and then I needed to recode.

I can't speak for standard procedures on your side of the pond. However, it's been my personal experience (owning BMW since 1986) that technical service bulletins to fix known or discovered "problems or issues" are applied at either the time of service or when requested by the customer - whichever comes first. That typically does not include enhancements or features like "Nav map updates" etc. but may include software/firmware updates for model-specific [standard] features.

Since that process may wipe clean any owner modified software/firmware it's up to the owner to decline any software updates but if it includes safety or similar factory updates the service center may be justified in declining your request.

Only if you are prepared to pay

I was charged around £250 to have software "upgraded" on a warranty/safety problem - allegedly at the insistence of BMW UK.

Was I happy about it?
No!

Did the software "fix" cure the problem? No!

Is the dealer returning my calls? No.

Will I use that dealer again?
What do you think?

Will I buy BMW again?
see above

Are you listening BMW?
No!

Garage List
Software update

I had a upper light console burnout and the replacement required a new software download to activate the new circuit board. Afterwards the LDW for the HUD stopped working and the dealer cannot fix, any suggestions?
