Nice specs, bet you can't wait to get your mitts on that steering wheel! I'm in a similar position, delivery expected anytime after Week 12.
Welcome and happy waiting!

Yeah, you ticked almost all boxes!
Congrats on the great setup and I look forward to seeing how this thread evolves as far as hints and recommendations are concerned, as in a few weeks I will be committing «with an order for a 535d F11 myself! |

Many thanks all for the warm reception.
BTW - The dealership already asking me to invest in Winter Tyres and they will store the summer ones. I'm not sure how popular / useful from a cost point of view these would be for the UK. Any comments / views most welcome |

I cant imagine you need winter tyres in/around London, given the weather there. A good set of all-seasons is all you should need.

Yup that's my view, although we did have a very bad winter a year ago, to add we are RWD, hence the marketing began. A full set would cost around £2k so not cheap either.

Other than that, winter tires aren't just for ice/snow. The composite is developed so that grip is optimal below 7 °C. You can check in any weather website such as weatheronline.co.uk how many days you had in London below that threshold from, say, October to March.

I live in the Pennine region of UK; we only had snow on a few days this year, followed by freezing conditions. Without the tyres I'd have missed a few days of work which would have cost me more than the wheels. I could bypass the jams by hitting all the non-treated roads. Agree about it not just being about snow, braking felt much better in the cold, damp conditions of a 6am commute. |

- 18" BMW M135 double-spoke wheels with Goodyear "Eagle NCT5" 245/45 R18 summer tires - 17" BMW 244 wheels with Pirelli "Sottozero 210" 225/50 R17 winter tires There is a slight difference in the car's behaviour as regards cornering, the summer configuration being better of course in dry conditions. However, during the winter time the Pirellis are wonderful in the colder temperatures: very silent, highly adherent to tarmac both in dry and wet conditions. In a nutshell, I wouldn't say that there is any drawback, since the possible loss of dynamic behaviour associated with a higher profile tire is irrelevant because of the increase in safety. As far as looks are concerned, obviously the 18" wheels look much better and the 17" actually do look a bit small for the E60. The 17" definitely won't turn anyone's head but they are fine, nonetheless. Another important thing... Between these two tire dimensions you will only have 2 additional wheel revolutions/km when comparing the 17" to the 18" due to the fact that the 17" are 9.1 mm smaller in outer circumference. This translates into an error of +0.4% in the measured speed so I don't even bother to ask BMW to recalibrate the velocimeter when I change tires... |
