Number one way not to get your car stolen

Sorry auto transmission drivers, but according to this article your car will probably get stolen because you didn't get a manual.

http://jalopnik.com/5937504/the-ten-...etting-stolen/

This should be the modding trend:
Just change the knob to look like a stick shift.

Tables have turned as well. Most Autos nowadays are faster than manuals. Not more fun.. just faster....

I know autos are faster. It's a joke. As if manuals are a deterrent.

I never thought I'd say this, but having driven mostly manual cars for the last 40 plus years I'm loving this 8 speed auto, and don't miss the manual 1 bit. If I have a hankering to drive a manual I've got either the stick or flappy paddles to choose from, whereas if the stick shift aficionados fancy a rest from changing gear, the closest they'll get is if they can persuade SWMBO to change gear for a while while they continue to operate the clutch. Add to that the fact that modern autos are quicker, smoother, less troublesome and more economical to run.

They could advance the manual if the gear throws were under an inch per gear and the clutch in sport mode also had under an inch travel. Or maybe even clutchless in sport mode.

Either way the article says not likely that someone will ever steal my manual.

Glad you're happy .

I tried but couldn't, just not the same "feel", as great as these automatics are, flappy paddles or not, faster smoother or not, it's just not the same feel.

A manual will only deter your small time criminals who just take what he/she can get. These guys won't really go after a new BMWs(in the US) since all BMWs here have encrypted keyless ignition.

Anyone who aims to steal cars, especially BMWs, will know how to drive a manual. If you're in a big metro like NYC area, don't count on manuals deterring them. They are pros stealing specific vehicles for the chop shops.

True, but encryption can be bypassed. There is a post that lives somewhere in the 3 series forums that shows pictures of his window broken and his OBD II port accessed. The thread goes on to say that the would be thieves failed to bypass the encryption because he had his JB4 on map 5. Those of us with BMS experience knows that even the dealer would not be able to properly talk to the ecu unless it was in map 0.

So to take this a step further having a JB4 in any other map than 0 would allow you to keep your car.

All that said, there's a free endorsement now send me my free JuiceBox.

I always use my E-Brake on my automatic

And pretty much alot of people dont know how to work it, one because almost no one in florida uses it, no hills, and its a bit tricky to figure out to some, specially some low life who has nothing better than steal cars. Not saying it wont get stolen but it will slow someone down, or if I get car jacked while the car is on park lol

I thought it was going to say replace your manual shift knob with an auto knob or vice versa.

I was trying to figure out how they were going to hide the clutch pedal

And are you saying that I can claim the JB4 as another level of anti-theft on my insurance!?

Same here. Every friend of mine couldn't figured out the brake as it is just a button on the center console.
