F10 speaker upgrade - MB Quart

Hi all

Finally decided to take the plung and upgrade the crappy standard F10 speakers. Read lots of reviews and settled on the MB Quart 200.3 speakers with the MB quart NSC475 amp as for the price these seem like good value according to the reviews.

The car has professional nav with the uk spec base speakers, so the question is, do i also need to get a sound processor?

Thanks in advance

If you want it to sound better, Yes! Maybe you might want to find some amp with built in processor.

I got bimmertech amp, it replaced the stock amp. There's a newer one call helix v eight w/ more power. It should fit @ stock amp too. I stack two amp there with no problem (2nd one for my woofer) & you don't see @ all!

when i first thought about upgrading my speakers i looked into the MBQuartz as i had them in my Tundra back in the day. but i believe the MBQuartz 200.3 doesn't handle the amount of power with the Bimmertech amp puts out but i may be wrong? i read it somewhere in a post awhile back. for your stock system without upgrading the amp the MBQuartz are fine. i'll have to research it again. i know msfive has got a pretty good setup if i can remember?

mbq 200.3 handles 80w rms max, so it's fine to use with bimmertech. what does the UK base audio consist of? does it have tweeters?

adding an amp for you is quite more involved. you will need to get what's called a base-to-hifi harness from technic or bimmertech; get your head unit coded to hifi; get a DSP & amp.

the harness plugs in behind the head unit; amp/dsp would need to sit in the boot cavity so much disassembly is required.

i do question, having upgraded my old e90's system from base, if the f10 also has the front channel speaker connections in the front sills by the under seats. i grabbed the signals for the MS-8 there & same connection was used to provide power from the amp to the doors & new wires were ran from the amp to the under seats & rear deck. slightly less involved since i did not have to take the head unit out, but this may not be an option for the F10.

Hi all

Right fitted the mb quart speakers and amp yesterday and have to admit its a huge improvement. I can help think i would like more bass from the underseat speakers. They sound pretty decent when you turn it up but lack punch at lower volumes. So this where i could do with help......how do i configure the amp setting to ensure I get bass from the under seat speaker without having to turn the bass up in the idrive to high which cause them to distort??

Heres a pix of the available adjustments on the amp.

Right finaly got the speakers and amp installed and at first i thought why i even bothered but some tweaking of the amp later and oh my god!! 😳 It sounds bloody awesome.

I like listening so its got plenty of highs and a fair amount of bass and this system does not dissapoint to the extent that both bass and treble are on about 2/3 max on the iDrive now. The bass is bloody awesome sounds like i have a sub in the boot (im not a bass junky by the way....lol) 😂

All i can say if you contemplating this upgrade and like your music then this is the best money i have spent on car upgrades.

Next week getting the Apline ezi dab unit fit as the f10 doesnt have DAB 😳

Tweaked the gain and settings on the amp. They were incorrect to start with

I found the UK F10 base audio frequency readings here. Looking at the QM200.3 manual, the tweeters can only be adjusted down. I would keep them at the 0db setting & play with the gain settings until you achieve your desired balance. As far as the crossover settings go on the amp, I would follow the manufacturer's instructions. First high pass CH1&2 at 150hz, 3&4 at 40hz & low pass them at 130hz. Slowly adjust 1&2 h/p down from 150 until you feel there's no "hole" in the response. It sounds like maxxonics actually put some thought into these instructions, so I would follow it further. It even tells you how to set your gains to achieve the best sound. Here's the link to the instruction manual. After that, get a trunk sub. I just added one & I don't know why I waited.
