I always run my 325d on premium fuels - Shell V-max diesel, preferably. It's reckoned to prevent a lot of EGR failures, keeps everything a lot cleaner.

Costs maybe £200 extra over normal fuels per annum.

It’s a fully expensed company car and the policy is to use standard fuel only. Otherwise I would use a premium fuel. Since the company cars are returned after 3 years and therefore never out of warranty, other than inconvenience, repairs are never going to be an issue.

Another point to consider on a car that has its warranty expiring is that a year's warranty premium of £1000 is high enough to be a significant wad of cash for a swap to an in warranty car. BMW know this of course......

This is very true and made the numbers around my swap from a 2010 F10 to a 2015 F10 all the more enticing.

Except that the value of your 2015 F10 dropped another £1000 in value the second you signed on the dotted line

Not sure about that Ian, BMW would have happily charged Fox the extra £1000 regardless, had be not bargained. You never get what you deserve, you only get what you negotiate.

The cost of the insurance premium after the end of warranty is a sizeable chunk towards the upgrade cost delta of a newer, in-warranty car. I earnestly believe that is why BMW keep the cost of the insurance warranty so high, to part encourage that up-sell to a newer car .
