Cigarette Lighter Socket Power When Off?

Just connected a car phone charger to my cigarette lighter socket and would like to know if power is always running to the socket, as I see that light on the charger remains on even after the car is shut off and locked; not sure if it times out or not. If not, I suppose we shouldn’t keep things plugged in!?

Yes, it stays on in my car also. But that comes in handy sometimes, especially if your phone might need a charge. That's the only thing that I would do and while in a secure place.

True. I wouldn't keep anything plugged in for fear of damaging the battery.

Hi All,

Does anyone know if the time-out can be changed by mod one of the computer settings/configuration?

It does have a 15 min time out, but if you leave something plugged into it all the time, the car's intelligent charging system recognizes the constant connection and will eventually trip the low discharge warning.

I think the outlet under the passenger's side of the dash is hot all the time.

Why they placed it there, only BMW engineers can tell you.

Ok, I'll admit I have never sat in the passenger seat in my F10. But, I had no idea that there was another outlet under the dash there.
