Brakes and pads change outside dealer voids warranty?

As per title. Front brakes (disks) - and pads dealer price 1k with work all in, independent with original parts - 700.

Car is under warranty but dont have this free maintenance package, so. If I service brakes and pads myself essentially, does that void warranty?

Will ask dealer of course but thought to check here just in case if anyone had bad experience. Obviously I will use same mechanic I always had used who I trust etc etc so no issues regarding quality of work, and so on so disclaimer out of the way, do I pay the stealer 300 more? Im in EU, so prices will not be same in US of course.

Warranty and maintenance program are two different things.

I too am curious about the question of if we do it ourselves, does it void the warranty?

In the US, Simple answer is: No.

You are free to service your car wherever you want.

No idea how it is within where you live.

Back when I lived in EU, dealers would find any and all excuses to reject warranties. Big difference between US and EU for sure on that route.

I would just check directly with dealer if I were you.

I wonder how often we are allowed to service our cars under the maintenance plan? Mine expires in October and the front brakes are due in November lol. I'm hoping I can get it in beforehand (If I don't drive into a wall first) to save some $$$

They will only service it when the car calls for it. In your case, they might make an exception though.

Well I got my answer. Brakes are NOT part of warranty so you are free to change them at least in EU.

so dealer is telling you if you get your brakes changed elsewhere and your turbo goes out they will to covet it.
That will not go well for them in court room

Please read the thread carefully. No one was talking about turbos.

If brakes are worn out and you need to change them its OK to change them yourself. They dont change worn out brakes under warranty. That is the only message here. I have no idea why you brought Turbo into the discussion. Cheers! Also Im not aware of all differences in warranties between USA and EU, so who knows. Bottom line - Im changing brakes myself and warranty is ok. /thread and hope its helpful to those who had this issue or will in future.

I think he's saying that a dealer will use just about any excuse to deny a warranty claim.

It voids the warranty with the anything related to the brake system, that's all. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act of 1975 protects you.

Its not quite a simple as that though. The brake discs and pads are not warranty items but certainly the Calipers, electronic handbrake and ABS module are and they could have a bit of wriggle room with the fact that someone else has worked on the braking system and damaged any of those if a claim was put in. For instance when changing pads you shouldn't push the piston back in without releasing the bleed screw or you can damage the ABS module.

he never specify warranty on brakes I was thinking about whole thing in general.
why would dealer warranty anything they don't work on.
I was hopping he wasn't talking dealer voiding warranty after anything is done outside dealer.
This is what he said " If I service brakes and pads myself essentially, does that void warranty?"

Just take it in and say there is a front end vibration when braking. US dealers will be happy to oblige, given they do get money for this. Its worth a shot.
