Anyone with the 16 speakers HiFi Professional Sound System?

According to the attached document, the HiFi DIRAC amp should be placed in the left side of the trunk and I would like to know if it takes space from the trunk or not.

Thank you!

The passenger side of my trunk has a shallow well with a plastic insert. The driver's side does not. I suppose that's where the amp is. There's really no noticeable effect on the storage capacity. I can take a pic tomorrow if you'd like.

I highly recommend the upgraded sound system if you're into music.

If I am not asking too much, yes, I would love to see a picture of the trunk, both sides, just to put my mind at rest for ordering the right stuff.

Many thanks!

My mid-2010 build car does not have any visible space taken by the amp in the trunk. I have fold-down seats so it is not possible that the amp is on the rear seat back.

I can't imagine that the choice of the audio system would affect the trunk space on the driver side. Any amp model is hidden under that small raised area secured by a small net on its edge.

I am questioning this because of BMW's own drawing posted above.
That is why I just want to make sure that by adding option 677 I don't get some negative "side effects"...

The amp doesn't affect boot space. The picture you posted is just for your information about speakers positions, no other purpose.

Mai am o masina la firma cu sonorizarea standard, iar portbagajul este exact la fel cu cea pe care o conduc si pe care am optiunea Hi-fi Pro.

Sorry for the crappy pictures. It was dark when I got to work this morning.

There is indeed a difference between each side. Not much, but still a difference. I would never have even thought twice about it though until this post came up.

Thank you so much guys!

theonewiththecap: is the european standard 6 speakers option OK? Did you also experienced the 12 speakers system? I really don't know what option to select here... I went for the Pro just to be on the safe side...

6 speakers only for such an expensive car doesn't sound OK to me...

Note: I am not interested in power (loud volume). My interest is in sound quality on high and medium frequencies.

Here is my trunk. I have the 16-speaker professional system (with speakers on window frame where it meets the A-pillar).

It appears different from the photo above. My car was manufactured July 2010 and I took delivery August 2010.

Dangit, not fair. I got dicked on the fold down seats by the dealer (didn't tell me they weren't a part of the cold weather package), and the car doesn't come with a cargo net like my Lexus did. Ridiculous.

Fortunately I have the possibility to listen to all three sound systems. I played the same music on all of them (mostly rock like RStones, Bad Co, Supertramp, Credence, but also Petrucciani and the Classics) and the conclusions are simple: DON'T GO WITH THE STANDARD as the speakers are clearly limited.
The HiFi or the medium range system is good, though if you're into music and looking for a flat sound, neutral and clear (the way the musician would like you to hear it) you might want to consider the hi-end sound system. It comes with Dirac tech (amp) and an equalizer which will help you get closer to that neutral sound.

Before you choose you might want to take a look here:

Oh, yeah - I have fold-down seats (don't know if that makes a difference with regard to the left-side net).

I took the middle system and I regret it everyday. For 800$ it is not very good. For just 400$ more I could have got the best system instead I can't believe how bad the standard system might be.

That's the most frustrating part about reading these forums. I get to hear everyone else talking about the options I simply couldn't afford. No HUD, no Active Cruise, and no Extended Black Dash... ah, the list goes on.

But I just keep telling myself no matter which way you slice it, the F10 is a work of art and a great driving car... and I'm lucky to have it.

You should see the bright side: you know where you go next
Your next F10 will be heavy optioned

And let me tell you a little secret: your third one will not be so heavy optioned like the second

Third time you will simply pick only what you really like and use. It is a process

Also, there are SO many people in the world driving crappy cars that driving even a standard F10 puts you in an exclusive club

All is good in the end. Thanks all of you for your help!
I will go with the high end 16 speakers system.

do we have any documentation on weather the top hifi 16 speaker system is actually a dirac system... like the individual audio system of e90 and e60?

pentium and vd: You are both right of course. It's a fantastic car and one has to draw the line somewhere. But as you said I am already considering which engine and options to get in two years when my lease is up

I thought I could give my mind a rest now that I have my new car, but not.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but what is the Extended Black Dash?

This is yet another very useful thread! I can't live without music and am what you could call a layman audiophile (LOL) and thus am choosing the HiFi Professional system. Nonetheless, I was wondering what would the difference be to the HiFi system (not Pro) but given the answers here my selection is final. That's one less degree of freedom in my configuration!
