BMS' website says this is for competition use only. If you had concerns with a smog visual inspection, it takes no more than 5 mins to remove prior to your inspection and another 5 mins to re-install afterwards.

How different was the sound and throttle response from stock?

Sound was noticeable, especially in colder temps. Throttle response I do not recall. I had an exhaust installed around the same time so I was not able to clearly differentiate between the two.
