Consumer Survey BMW Please Help - One Click Survey - Share
Please share - will do same for you. F10 530D 2011 - 55,000
Details: Engine vibration idle - stop start mode off. Engine in D. Foot on Brake. Engine vibrates occassionally, occassional splutter, like bad fuel, or misfire, or slight jolting. Not always present. Have been told by dealer that this is normal and is the EGR valve working its magic. That being the case every F10 should experience the same tiny sensations of vibrations. Not acute but enough to feel odd. Whole car shakes very gently for a few seconds, all the time or just on start up or after long drive at traffic lights. Mounts - checked Gearbox - checked - found to be faulty - replaced Idle Speed - changed - improved Waiting for letter from BMW - so require evidence from other drivers please. Do share if you can. No problems with mine.
Just curious how do you guys drive your car's? Are you very gentle with them or do you really open them up regularly? I have never had any issues with any of my previous 6 diesel cars, however I drive them hard. Never had any black soot build up out the exhaust when kicking it down. My wife drives hers gently so I take it out once a month at least and tears the ass off it to clear out any build up!

Too check the injectors is not an easy job, require to open the intakes.
What you could try to start with is some injector cleaning additive and to go for a good drive at higher revs. I think this is why the sport mode has such a high rpm, I did not understand why it wanted to run at 2500 rpm, but after my experience I think the reason is to keep the engine clean. These modern engines needs a very precise mix to function right, some build up on the injector nozzles will result a different spray, and a non-optimal combustion. The soot buildup is in the intakes and on the injectors because of the EGR sending exhaust into the intake, if you drive nice and easy on low rpm all the soot with build up. This is why you need to use those high rpms from time to time. |

Controversial perhaps, but since new, I've used BP Ultimate diesel for its supposed cleaning properties
It complies with the standard of diesel that BMW allows (that EN number I can't recall). it may be a sales gimmick, and maybe I'm wasting my money, but as I'm a low mileage driver and I intend to keep the car for ~10 years, I figured it was worth doing. I know that's a forums topic in itself but thought I'd mention it. The manual does state not to use additives though but that might be a way for them to not have to 'support' all of those products out there. |

Yes, although might be too late now... I'm not discounting faulty injectors but it's well documented that diesels need to be opened up regularly as the fuel quality and combustion process releases a lot more contaminants than an equivalent petrol engine which burns cleaner. Driving around moderately all of the time is not good for the engine or the dpf either. Many city drivers will experience issues with injectors or the dpf...
