All I keep thinking is how horrible those output numbers are for a V12. Engine tech sure has come a long way since then.

Yea I might have to agree, it just looks like it WOULDN'T fit. Like fitting a LSx motor in an s2000. It will go in, it just doesn't look like it should

While it does look cool, not worth the weight and balance issues for such low HP.

FI induction does wonders for the S52, in my case a gain of about 150whp.

Well don't forget the transmission that mates up to that V12 isn't exactly tiny either (5HP30 5 speed auto). Not sure if a Z3 tranny tunnel could support that gearbox. Although this article doesn't mention what transmission was used on this prototype 'fun-build', I would assume it is the 5HP30... if it is a manual, me and the 8 series guys would sure like to know what it is... as there weren't any manual transmission M73 powered 850's (only some of the early M70 powered cars and of course the S70 CSi).

What about the time BMW shoehorned the 700hp and 530lb/ft of torque, ~8,000 rpm redline 6.0l V12 from the BMV LeMans Sports-Prototype Racecar into an X5, to form the X5 LM?

The original plan was to use the V10 from the Williams-BMW F1 Racecar but that idea was scrapped because BMW did not have a transmission that could handle 18,000 rpm.

But this project straight from BMW is nothing short of amazing: fitting a V12 into that small chassis.
I believe that Hartge did a 5.0 V8 conversion on the Z3.

I don't know about Hartge, but ACS did one and painted it orange.

Both Hartge and ACS are aftermarket tuners though.

I think the point of this thread was one-off cars made directly by BMW engineers.
