dash cam
Has anyone had the BMW dash cam installed..?
Or if using your own dashcam, have you had it professionally wired in or running a cable from the centre console? I've got a dash cam I had in my 3 series but haven't put it into my 5 yet as don't want cables around, but don't know how much it would cost to have it properly installed for the wiring.. Thanks |

My dashcam uses a USB based power source so I was able to use the USB port in the glove box.
From there I was able to run up behind the A pillar trim and in the gap at the top of the windscreen so the cable isn't visible. It was a lot simpler than I was expecting |

Very impressed with the quality of the image coming out of it plus the ability to control it (change settings etc) from my iPhone makes set up a piece of cake. Most importantly when playing back, I can pause the video where needed and clearly read the registration number of the car I am looking at. It doesn't run when parked because of the power source I have used but that is not a feature I needed. Likewise it does not have GPS. Again not something I wanted as I was looking for something that recorded what I saw as a second pair of eyes. If I am in a position where I need this footage then I already know where the car is because I was there HERE is link to the same video on my own hosting site which is a lot better quality as YouTube compresses videos and you loose a lot of quality and here is a still from the same video showing how clear the reg numbers are |

I have ordered the suction mount (haven't fitted it get) but it is a lot smaller than it looks online (see picture below). There is a 3rd party one on Amazon but that looks quite long so would place the camera a lot lower on the screen |

I have got myself an LS300W non brand dashcam.
Not got a problem with installing it. Placed at the top of the windscreen, infront of the mirror. Then its all hidden behind the pillar and dash, before going into the back cig. socket. Taken with my previous BMW.

I'm also using the drive pro following auto express recommending it .. I've bought the official suction mount which is small actually so a neat solution .. I just need to work out the best way to get the wires to it without being visible ...

I'm currently looking into buying one of these too. I'm after a camera which attaches to the rvm and can be swivelled. Anyone come across one of these?

Just bought myself a E-Prance (Amazon) for £35 last week, has since gone up a little. Including the power supply it worked out at £50 delivered. Will post up some pics once it's delivered and fitted.
Was looking at the Blackvue, but just didn't want to spend north of £300. |

Can the E Prance be turned to face the rear? Is the mount be swivelled?

Any of you hardwired your dashcam?
On e90 all the fuses are at the front. On X6 front fuses are constantly on and rear fuse box has ignition related fuses. I was reading F10 manual and it seems it has two fuse boxes as well. Just wondering if anybody found fuse which turns on with ignition at the front?

I've got a mini 0803 fitted, really neat and compact and can be barely seen from the drivers seat.
Wired it to the USB port in my glove box. All cabling totally hidden and the dash cam hidden nicely behind the rear view mirror. http://www.techmoan.com/blog/2014/6/...-a-screen.html |

Missed response. I already have a dash cam (Lukas ...cant remember the exact model number). It records when the car is parked as well and therefore it requires hardwiring. I guess I will have to find a way how to run the wire to cigarette socket or to the fuse box in the boot to make it fully compliant.

I purchased a http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...=cfb_at_prodpg - e-prance G1W
Very happy, only snag with it is that the suction cup is useless on the rear windscreen.

I've got the Transcend drivepro 200 & can also confirm it is very good!
Another one to consider is the B40/A118 as it is very good (i bought one for my dad) and in particular the form factor is great as it sits flush on the windscreen. It's only £45, but doesn't come with a mem card: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B...ilpage_o08_s00 |

Hello people, after getting my November 2014 520d luxury auto Callisto grey i've just had a towbar fitted. The guy certainly knew his stuff and baffled me a bit with canbus jargon, but the car is set up a treat disabling the rear sensors fogs etc with the correct warning display on the dash and on the media system.
Anyway...... i asked his advice on a switched live for my car camera and i thought it might be of interest to show you how he did it. The camera is just below the interior mirror and the power runs up the side of the mirror mounting along the headlining on the passenger side and down the 'A' pillar taking extra care to keep it out of the airbag section and into the fuse box. He used a piggy back fuse which was a new thing for me but i guess very common to you techy's and connected it to fuse number 43. He also suggested that it was important that the fuse was to the live side as you can fit the piggy back fuse the wrong way around (ok, if he says so !) there might be a photo attached to this post but i'll be amazed if it is actually there ! My first post so i apologise if this is clearly covered elsewhere i did search for it but found nothing and also apologise if i have rabbitted on too long. If i can help with more info please just ask. A great forum, it's keeping me busy for hours Cheers Andy. |
