N63 Walnut Blasting

Any N63 owners here paid for a walnut blast to be done? As I approach 100k I've been considering having it done since I know my valves are definitely nasty.

I'm wondering what the costs are for people who have had it done at Indy shops.

Is that serious? I can get my N55 done for 300. Do the N63 require removal of more parts to get to the valves?

N63 engines have the exhaust & turbos in the V of the V8. The intake manifolds are on the side, pointed down, where a traditional V8 has its exhaust manifolds.

To say access is restricted doesn't even touch on the reality.

Damn, the cost is in the labor then. Well i can say that the N54 compared to the N55 stays cleaner longer. The N54 is needed every 30-40k miles and the n55 should be done between 80-100k. Dont know if thats the same for last gen 8cyl vs this gen.

My SA said they only do it on the N55 to cure a problem. Not a maintenance item for the N55...

Personally, I know that I have some bad blowby, and I've had a few issues where my intake pipes popped off because they weren't tightened fully. So I know I must have some decent buildup.

But yes, to do the N63 the engine must be lowered so the intake manifolds can be removed. I would do this job myself and rent the blaster, but I don't have a lift or the space to lower the engine.

If your trying to tune a high milage n55 you should. I would agree that its not a maintenance routine.

Coming up on 37k miles on my N55. Only had a JB4 on for about 2k miles and have been running about 4 gal of E85 on every tank. When should I be considering a walnut blasting?

Some feedback. I had my 750ixdrive in Bimmex here in Toronto
They replaced the valve seals, carried out the walnut blasting, and during the reassembly they replaced all cooling hoses on the engine and cleaned all the injectors ( which had already been replaced several years ago under the CCP)
The walnut blast was 2,000 Cdn $ Total cost for the engine work parts and labour 7800. My third party warranty covered 4,000 of the 7,800
Picked up the car yesterday. Drives absolutely like a new car. My guess is acceleration up by 30% and the engine much quieter Milage is 152,000 km or approx 90,000 miles Prior to the repair work my oil consumption was not that bad. One quart every 700-900 miles. Only had the blue smoke after long idle. BMW Toronto The dealer recommended a total engine replacement at cost of 22,000 c$. There is no class action suit up here unlike in the US. Hope this is useful

Hmm has anyone tried valve cleaning products like CRC Intake Valve & Turbo Cleaner: http://crcindustries.com/gdi/

If this works it's no question the more reasonable approach compared to walnut blasting the N63.

I was thinking about shooting this down through the PCV intake ports.
