And the surprises just keep rolling in

Ok, my dealer finally set up my BMW assist account for me. The Assist people informed me that even if I paid for the service it can't be extended past the original warranty period. In other words a major safety feature will expire and I will probably have the vehicle for several years thereafter. Now, what makes sense about that?

That can't be right.... I'm past the original warranty and they told me they will happily take my $199 for a year's service... It even shows up as an option in the iDrive...

Omg! I don't think BMW made it clear at the time of sale that these crucial safety features had a relatively short lifespan.

Worse, BMW continued to use 3g for a long time after 4g was stable.

I can understand why BMW wouldn't want to retrofit a life safety component en masse. But, the car buying public didn't think that a 4 year old car would soon lose critical life safety features.

This is all but certain to be litigated.

BMW must do a better job in making these components modular.

That is a load of crap, I would rather have 3g that might not work than noG at all.

While that is a load of crap, i do agree with you....

Honestly its no great loss (here in so cal anyway)

i needed them awhile back and they wanted an hour to get me off the fwy and

take me to the nearest BMW dealer (oh yeah, they wont take you anywhere else)

i ended up driving it off the fwy myself on two massively bent wheels and called the Auto Club, I was pretty close to the ramp and all the susp parts on the passenger side would be replaced anyway

Point being -----------> AAA is far superior for a quarter the price

4. Can a customer upgrade their vehicle to newer technology that would support BMW Assist?
a. Currently, we do not have a retrofit option in order to upgrade earlier hardware to newer hardware so that BMW Assist can still be supported. However, we are working on a technical upgrade. For further details, please contact your dealer in the second half of 2016.
Doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
