Question

My 550i M Sport has NO problems with low power take offs in any MODE.
In fact it has to be treated with a light foot on take off in traffic for fear of hitting the guy in front.

Hey, you forgot about the 530d (maybe also the other diesels) which also gets a transmission of its own - to handle the massive torque (check the final drive ratio on the offical stats page!)

On a related issue - are any diesel drivers having the same problem?

Your'e right. Was just looking at the Gasoline applications for the US market. Wish we could get those Diesels.

Not sure if this is the same issue. I have a 2011 335i. From a full stop, sometimes when I press on the gas paddle, nothing happens. If I press harder, it will jerk foward. Took it in for the 6-month inspection. Was told nothing wrong, but I got the SIB 12-22-10 programmed. Now it does not jerk anymore, but not sure if I like it. The car seems sluggish. I think it starts in second gear and shifts slower. Anyone has this experience?

It needs resetting unless it's a manual, try disconnecting the battery for a minute or two, this should reset it, it will relearn your driving habits.

My car has this problem too.

If you disconnect the battery can you keep all of your personal settings and not have to rebuild your preferences?

Down load your settings through the IDrive onto a memory stick, then reload them afterwards.
It's in your settings menu.

I am in Seattle WA. - Having the same problem described by everyone. Dealer also says the car is "normal". Car is not fun to drive. I actually dread it because it reminds how badly I am getting screwed. Count me in for any kind of organized response to BMW.

Sorry for the late reaction, I've had a sore neck, something to do with the 540 nm torque, I'm sure.
But no problems accelerating otherwise......

My F10 was reset and fixed, however the hesitation came back about a month later.

So many people are having this problem that I am sure they are aware of it. I think they are quietly fixing it. Afraid of bad press and lawsuit? They told me "normal" initially. When I took it in for my first 6-month inspection, it got fixed though they did not admit it. My SA did not seem surprised at all when I mentioned the problem. They applied SIB 12-22-10, but it is not supposed to fix a problem like this. I think they re-programmed the throttle response. The car feels sluggish at first may be just because I have to press harder now. Need more time with the car to be sure. Next time when your car is in for service, mention hesitation and jerkiness and see if they will fix it without admitting it.

I experienced what I would call a "kick in the pants" problem which I shared in this and others threads. It felt like the result of a very crude gear shift at a very particular speed (8KM/h). But to this day I'm not sure that this was indeed the issue (gear shift).

Long and short - this very noticeable and VERY annoying "kick" is now gone. BMW replaced the transmission's "Mechatronic Valve" (or something close in name). This procedure completely eliminated the specific problem I had with my car.

Thanks Salter, do you feel the transmission shifting after the repair was done? Mine seems to be hunting for the right gear at lower speeds and is very noticeable to me as I drive.

Yes. As far as I'm concerned it's smooth enough. I'm not noticing any unusual "hunting". Than again, I'm so relieved that the problem is gone, anything else that's transmission related may be too small for me to notice.

Update!

Anyone notice smoother shifting and better response when the Traction Control is off?

I tried it, and the car seems to be much smoother when DTC OFF.... but I can't explain why.

Any feedback would be helpful.

It seems that people are referring to different problems under this thread.

The one I am experiencing is really hardly noticeable, but still is a bit annoying. Description given above is very similar to what I experience:

Explanation seems to have been given also above:

Quote:

From what I can see on the dash: the RPM clearly goes down to idle (around 600-650 rpm) when the car goes to 20 km/h and below. And if you press accelerator at that moment (the car is still moving) it seems like it needs to engage the gear again. I am not sure which one it engages, but if you press too gently it engages one and almost straight away shifts to the next one (thanks to plenty torque available), which I think causes lag and slight jerk.

I noticed, it helps pressing the accelerator a bit harder, than there is no hesitation in the box as to “which gear to use”….

This must be the specific way how the gearbox works.

I noticed here among thread an interesting solution …. that helped many people it did not change much in my case .
http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455949

Also tried initialising DTC (Traction mode) - no difference to my issue.

Duneman, thanks for your post. I have been amazed at the way my car drives with the DTC off. I have owned the car for almost 9 months now and for the first time it drives without the hesitation or jerk. I encourage anyone with this problem to give it a try.

Thanks for the feedback DChaffins!

Yes. Turning off DTC seems to eliminate most Jerking and Hesitation at low speeds.

I'm gald to see it's working for you too.

I definitely feel a difference of Night/Day when turning the DTC off. Feels just like it should, 90% of the hesitation is eliminated and acceleration is responsive and smooth.

I have an appointment at BMW San Diego this coming Monday to get the software update.

lets see what happens.

Without going back and reading all these threads again....is there a software update now out? (An actual Software update...not a Reset as many dealers have done.) I too have had the hesitation and have done the reset a couple of times only to have it come back. I was just going to wait for BMW to catch up with the issue and get the new software once it comes out.

I will try turning off the DTC however. Intriguing on why this would have an effect.
