The reset should work with the GT. keep in mind, this just erases the memory and sets the car back inot the learning mode for shifts points. The jerkiness will likely come back, but worth a try.

My GT really isn't that jerky, but it's definitely not as refined as my now week old 550i sedan. It seems to get much smoother after it warms up 20 minutes later, I wouldn't complain if there is no fix though, I very much enjoy the GT.

Some members over at BF reported that there is now a SI B12 09 11 that seems to rectify the problem. Anybody tried getting their SA to perform the update?

The SI B12 09 11 is only for the N55 engines, not the N52 in the 528i.
My dealer said it was "normal" and intended to help with gas mileage. It is anything but normal to me... it is dangerous and enough 528i owners need to complain to corporate BMW or BMW-NA ... or somewhere higher up than their local service shops. |

There is a fix. I had mine fixed and it runs great now.
Have your dealer look at Bulletin =SI B 12 09 11. It refers to the hesitation issue. Link: http://www.bmwtis.com/tsb/attachment...411_Slides.pdf

I did the procedure in the first post and it definitely helped. Not sure how long it will last based on what some others said, but it only take a few minutes to run through it every so often and start fresh, until maybe a more permanent fix is available. |

Did it work for you?
I have read a few rumors that some 528i owners were able to get their 528i flashed with the 535i SIB fix and it worked. I would like their dealer and SA name so I can pass it along to my SA for verification. |

I read elsewhere that a 528i owner had the latest software update and it did not help this issue. Not sure if it was the SIB 12 9 11 (specifically for the 535i) or the one from a couple a weeks ago... or something else, but it did not help.
More people need to call BMW NA and their SA and complain. The more complaints the better chance of something getting done. |

Even if temporary; this worked like a charm on my 535i. Drives so much better now from a stop or even a rolling stop.
Thanks! |

My son's a BMW tech. The holding the throttle down to reset thing is an old wives tale that's been going around for a long time. the only way to reset the adaptive controls is through the computer. I've had the 12 9 11 upgrade and doesn't help either. It's a software issue and BMW needs to get their act together and fix it.

My local BMW workshop chief was actually also a bit sceptic about this trick.. But when he tried it on my car after software update, he got completely excited to see the results! I tried it myself few times and I could feel much more of an effect effect, than after any adaptation resets "through the computer". Trust me, I’ve been around 15 times to the workshop in 2011 with software issues. One more fact. They flashed my i-drive in Jan 2011 and in April 2011 after which the gearbox stated jerking. They could not do anything to fix it and therefore they changed my gearbox, official reason as announced by the chief rep for my region "there was a possibility that the old gearbox was not understanding correctly the new software"..... Even after installation of the new gearbox and all adaptation resets "through the computer" the gearbox was jerking just like before the change.... It took 1500 km of driving and "throttle down reset thing" to get things came back to almost normal! ... things back to absolute normal after the last software reset in October 2011... PS. There is way to much electronics in this car and BMW guys, unfortunately, themselves do not know how it works! Not to mention how great of a programmers they are! |

My car has the N47 engine and is affected by this hesitation issue. Earlier today I tried the throttle reset solution for the second time (as the hesitation was back) and it worked again, with very clear impact on acceleration and responsiveness.
It is a shame I have to do this every week or so though!

Hi everybody,
After suffering months of hesitation problem, especially worse when the steering is turned (like while trying to make a u-turn and awaiting oncoming traffic to clear), I tried the TBA and must report that it worked wonderfully! The sluggish N55 535i sprang back to life! Fuel consumption also improved markedly and throttle response is back to its original state. But, like many others here, the solution is at best temporary. After a couple of weeks, the same old problem returns. Its very annoying (and definitely dangerous) to have the engine hunting (much like not all the spark plugs are functioning) and the engine seemed to be stalling anytime - and even more so when one needs to drive away faster than the oncoming traffic in a u-turn. After numerous flashing of the s/w and seeing no solution, the dealer informed me more than a moth ago that a new software that especially addresses this issue is coming and I am still waiting. When I escalated this issue to the BMW regional rep office, I was told that they are looking at Sept for the new s/w. That s/w will be the last straw ... somebody's back gotta break!
