2011 F10 front suspension noise/creak

For the last 8 months, I have had a suspension creak in the front for the first 5-10 min of driving. It is easiest to hear over small bumps out of the driveway. It occurs whether it is hot or cold outside. I took it to my BMW dealer 6 months ago and they could not find a source. They assured me they did not see anything broken or worn out. I searched Bimmerpost and could not find a similar thread, but I did find one on bimmerforums without an answer.

I purchased my vehicle new and have 48k miles on it.

Not normal. But it could be something minor or something major. I would be interested to know how it might differ if you went over the speed bump with just the left side or just the right side. It could be the front sway bar bushing or a link and nothing more, for instance. or it could be a broken or improperly assembled plastic component under the car rubbing on the sway bar as it moves.

Any mods?

Usually that's the stabilizer bar bushings. Inspect away and their failure will never be noticed. They dry-out and squeak.

No mods. The stabilizer bushing idea sounds like it may be it. Any idea the cost to replace? In comparing again today, the video link is actually more dramatic than what I am hearing. Mine is more with smaller suspension movements when cold like the lip at the end of the driveway and tight turns on pavers. Larger bumps don't seem to make it worse than the smaller ones.

Cost to replace depends on how handy you are. A bushing alone is probably <$20 if you can DIY the install. I've got a post or two in a sway bar thread here that outlines all the tools and rough procedure for both front and rear bars.

I'll add a link here if I dig it up. You could also pull it apart and throw some silicone grease (must be silicone, petrochemical based grease attacks rubber) between the bushing and the bar and see if it quiets down.

Why replace it if it just needs a squirt of lube? Again - depends on how comfortable you are working on it. It's not a regular "maintenance" item to have to lube those bushings so the question would remain - why yours? why now?

Back in the day (and should be today) rubber bushings need to be lubricated, protecting them against the elements i.e. drying out. Lifetime bushings are a marketing ploy. I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure even urethane deteriorates over time.

And it is hot in Florida...

I have some noises as well. I replaced the control arms and sway bar links and the noise is still there. To isolate I disconnected the sway bar links and the noise was gone so front sway bar bushings it is BUT dealer DOES NOT SELL THE BUSHINGS. They sell just the whole assembly with a new sway bar, brackets and bushings. It's ridiculous.

For anyone looking for this, I purchased 335i w/Sport Suspension sway bar bushings (cost 20$) and they fit. They are the same size and fit exactly in the there.

Did you find that it was the bushings? I have the same problem on my '14 535i. It's faint and almost mimics the sound when the rim of a glass is rubbed. I hear the 'squeak' only at slow speeds over bumps.

I had similar problem with my 2015 f10. Cracking, squeaking noice coming from my suspension and it turned out they had a bulletin for the problem. Bulletin 310112

That bulletin seems to relate to hub bearing.

I had this problem and they were wheel bearings and got them replaced under good will from BMW back in the day... Good will was due to me keep taking car to the dealer and they couldn't figure it out for a while and than warranty/maintenance ran out lol.

I have the same issue. Bought into the dealer and they want 179 to diagnose the issue I have a month left on my CPO which really don’t cover anything.

Maybe not, just the active sway bar bushings for the front

Any chance you finally resolved this issue and if so, how please? Mine started very quiet over 2 years ago and has now become as loud as heard in my linked video. What's worse is every mechanic thus far (independent and BMW dealerships) is unable to replicate. Please watch my short 3 second clip (creak sound at 1 second in) and advise if sound is the same. So far I have tried changing my lower right control arm as it was visibly worn out - issue persists.

Any updates on this anyone?

Were the sway bar bushings the cause?

Please advise.

Many thanks.
